The 2D action platformer Broforce was released in October 2015 on Steam. Now the new update “Broforce FOREVER” is online, and you can grab one of the best co-op games for only 2.95 euros.
What kind of game is this? Broforce is an extremely exaggerated co-op adventure with tons of explosions and unexpected chain reactions, featuring more action heroes from the 80s and 90s than Sylvester Stallone in his Expendables. Also, because the update “Expendabros” has been out for a while.
Your task is clear: You must free the pixel world from the baddies with loaded weapons. Each player starts with an iconic TV hero from the past, all with special skills related to their role. Here’s a small selection of the available “Bros”:

What do players say about Broforce? On Steam, Broforce is one of the highest-rated games. Overall, 97% of reviewers have left a positive impression (06.08.23 / via Steam).
There are loads of long, humorously written reviews with countless references to bro-time, testosterone, and masculinity. One person mentions that he finally grew a full beard after playing Broforce. And I’m inclined to believe him.
MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller finally enjoys Battlefield 2042 because it feels good to be a bad person.
It is no secret that Battlefield 2042 struggled with some issues at launch in 2021. The eagerly awaited shooter disappointed fans of the popular series with poor performance, gameplay bugs, and missing content – too few maps, no scoreboard, no server browser, and too few weapons.
There were even more points of criticism, but we won’t list them all now.
Almost 2 years after release, a lot has changed in the game and it is approaching the state it should have had at launch. Reason enough for MeinMMO author Dariusz Müller to return to Battlefield 2042 and see how the game has developed – and contrary to his expectations, he actually had some fun!
Still not a good game, but…
I’ll be completely transparent, Battlefield 2042 still has some points that I don’t like. I can’t play this game without getting upset about certain decisions made regarding the gameplay.
Some things just feel wrong, are still buggy, or are simply disappointing compared to predecessors like Battlefield 4. A teammate of mine, an avid Battlefield fan, often has to hear what I think 2042 could have done better.
But that’s not what we’re going to talk about today, because Battlefield 2042 fulfilled exactly the purpose I had for the shooter this summer.

But I couldn’t just wait idly. After the XDefiant beta, I was eager for shooter action. I chose Battlefield 2042 because I had paid money for it once and didn’t want it to rot away unplayed in my library.
The probably better alternative is BattleBit Remastered, but I can’t play it. Regardless of the fact that I don’t like the low-poly graphics style, I suffer from motion sickness in the Lego-Battlefield. Even watching is uncomfortable for me. I don’t have that problem in Bf2042.
Dominance despite lack of talent
Almost with a painful sense of shame, I say: I actually had a lot of fun playing Battlefield 2042 in the past weeks. At some point, I realized that my gaming enjoyment didn’t stem from the game, but from the players. More accurately, from the opponents and definitely not from my teammates.
It feels absolutely wrong to say that so directly, and it certainly makes me a worse person, but: I am simply better.
I am by no means a shooter god and notice in other shooters like Rainbow Six: Siege and especially in Valorant, that there are plenty of players who mercilessly stomp me into the ground. My shooter skills are okay, but nothing more. There are plenty of better players – just not in Battlefield 2042.
Where have you gone, good players?
I don’t know if the matchmaking is just unfair – to my advantage – or if the good Battlefield players are hanging out in the predecessors or in Battlebit, but in Battlefield 2042 I sometimes felt like a young god.
My teammates and I regularly formed the best squad in the match and dominated the scoreboard with kills, captured flags, and the most revives. We often wondered: Where are the good players? Even vehicles couldn’t stop us because they acted too statically and could be blown up by simple C5s.
Of course, there were occasional squads that performed similarly well. There were also players who were simply better. But percentage-wise, that happened surprisingly rarely. The strange thing is, if I were in Battlefield 4 now, I would quickly get reminded of my limits again – so I stayed in Battlefield 2042.
I am a simple-minded person. I like to be better than my opponents. It feels good to be high up on the scoreboard. I came to enjoy power – or something similar.
Candidly speaking, I can’t really find that good. I’m probably playing against players who only have time to play once every few days or weeks for 1-2 hours and just want to enjoy a round of Battlefield in the evening.
My teammates and I, on the other hand, are much more active and profit-oriented. We usually play tactical shooters, communicate our approach fairly precisely, and also enter chaotic Battlefield matches with a plan. This obviously does not apply to a large portion of our opponents, but also not to our teammates.
Surely some opponents cursed us as “tryhards,” even though we were just playing our way. We certainly didn’t want to ruin anyone’s gaming experience, but it was fun nonetheless.
It looks different in battle royale and extraction shooters, they are not fun for me:
The new subscription service from PlayStation is already a year old since June. There was a lot of discussion about it back then, and the service was often compared to Xbox’s Game Pass. Although PS Plus Extra and Premium have many issues in comparison, I still love the service.
What is PS Plus Extra/Premium? Most people probably know PS Plus Essential, which is the standard subscription for online gaming that existed before. The other two offer you additional games:
PS Plus Premium: This service offers you a classic catalog of old games in addition to Extra, as well as trials of new releases and cloud streaming.
Basically, it doesn’t sound so bad, but the service is really not comparable to Game Pass.

The Xbox Game Pass excels with new releases
What makes the Xbox Game Pass better? The big advantage of the Xbox Game Pass are mainly new releases. Many games are available on the first day of the release directly in the subscription. Exoprimal, Wo Long, and Atomic Heart are some major examples.
As a result, you don’t have to pay 70 to 80 € for games that you may not even like. Many indie games also appear in Game Pass and may reach more players this way than if they get lost in the flood of Steam releases.
PS Plus Extra does not offer major games directly. No God of War Ragnarök or Spiderman 2. The exclusive blockbusters do not appear at release. The major flagships from Sony appear in the service only months to years later. Examples would be Horizon Forbidden West.

How is the Premium subscription? The classic catalog unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired at first glance. Individual titles like Resident Evil 1 or Tekken 2 are available. The question is, however, why only individual titles. Tekken 3 is considered one of the most important fighting games, not Tekken 2. Also, classics like Twisted Metal are only available after a year.
While there are countless PS3 games, many of them are titles that could come from the bargain bin of a Saturn. At least you can catch up on the whole God of War and inFAMOUS series. But there’s no real big lineup of historically important titles for Sony.
However, all of this is secondary to me because I have a lot of fun with the Extra and Premium catalog. And this is mainly because I am a fan of Japanese and quirky games.

Why do I love PS Plus Extra/Premium? First and foremost, the selection of titles. They are not major blockbusters or anything like that. But they are games that I find interesting, which have disappeared due to a large wave of releases.
A Samurai Warriors 5 or Earth Defense Force 5 are not titles that would appeal to the masses. However, PS Plus Extra has its own character because of this. That has always been the appeal to me of the older PlayStation consoles. They were a home for the quirky and odd games.
And the Premium subscription also offers a lot of that. Ape Escape 2 is one of my absolute favorite games, where you just catch monkeys. Tokyo Jungle is a hidden gem of the PS3, which would probably work much better today as a rogue-like. Without the service, I would have never been able to try that game.
Microsoft does not have such a legacy. Sure, there’s Halo and acquired brands like Banjo Kazooie. But I don’t find a real character with edges and corners in Game Pass. Don’t get me wrong, I think both services are good, but not everything has to be like Xbox Game Pass.

Take the left path to the chest and the statue of Selûne. Jump over the rock crevice and retrieve the prayer behind the statue.

How to open the chest: Early in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will find an injured priest named Edowin on the street along with his two acolytes. You learn that they were attacked by an owlbear.
The respective cave is only a few steps away across the river. Once you enter the cave, your character will quickly notice that the owlbears are still there. These creatures are legendary in D&D and truly dangerous.
Spoiler: Should I help the stranger?
Edowin will ask you to watch over his flock. However, if you do not intend to make a pact with your parasite and take an evil path, fight the two directly or send them to die in the cave. They are not nice fellows.
In the left tunnel of the cave, you will find a statue with a golden chest in front of it. An Arcana roll will reveal that the chest is enchanted. Do not open it yet! Otherwise, you will take a lot of damage. Instead, proceed as follows:
Jump over the small chasm (key “Y”).
Search behind the Selûne statue in the rubble for a “Selûnian Prayer Scroll.” Shadowheart has a snarky comment about this and wants to stop you. Ignore her.
Return to the chest and open your inventory.
Use the “Read” function on the scroll and you can open the chest without dying.
What’s in the chest?
Besides a few trinkets that you can sell and some lore items, you will primarily find a statue of Selûne and the necklace “Moon Drop Pendant.” Wearing this, you provoke no opportunity attacks when you have less than 50% hit points. Ideal for offensive melee fighters.

Investigate Owlbear Cave without dying
If you explore the cave a bit further, you will find a mother owlbear with her cubs – or whatever the kids are called in those beasts. She does not attack you immediately because she is injured. To avoid being killed, you have two options:
a successful roll on “Handle Animals”
the spell (or potion) “Speak with Animals”
The mother owlbear will then warn you but let you go. You can even explore a bit more in the cave, but do not get too close to her egg, or she will attack. Tip: every character in the party can “speak” to her again from the beginning.
The fight against the mother owlbear is also not too hard. Since she is already injured, she rarely hits and takes a lot of damage. You can easily take her down, which makes her cub very sad. You can choose whether to kill it or spare it.
The brutal option is especially rewarding for greedy players: you will receive a good medium armor for the start and decent gold for the egg.
Early in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can find a cave where several guardian statues can quickly take your life. MeinMMO explains how to deactivate the statues, what you can find in the cave, and how to proceed best.
Stealth to the runes of the eagle, bear, and wolf and interact with them.
Clear the goblins out of the way and heal Findal with a simple spell like from Shadowheart or use “Help.”
This is how to reach the runes: There are a total of 3 entrances to the cave. In most cases, you will come from “above,” entering the cave directly next to the gate to the camp in the Emerald Grove.
You can find the door right after the fight with the goblins and use it as an alternative way into the grove. However, right at the entrance, there is an eagle statue waiting for you, which will deal with you using fire and lightning. From here on, proceed as follows:
Separate your rogue from the group so that he acts alone. Move his portrait “away” from the others.
Use the “Stealth” mode (key “C”). The statues will not attack you then.
Stealth past the statue and activate the eagle rune.
Afterward, you will encounter goblins that you need to persuade or take out. They are not particularly strong, and you should deal with them quickly. Then, move to the bear rune in the same way.
For the wolf rune, you need to jump onto the ledge in the middle (key “Y”). Stealth down to the rune below, activate it, and loot the corpse lying right next to it. Heal Findal, who is unconscious among the goblins, and secure his thanks.

Cave of statues rewards you with plenty of loot
With the key from the corpse – or a rogue with “Lockpicking” – you can open a chest directly in the cave. The goblins also have quite a bit of loot with them, especially weapons and armor that you can turn into gold.
If you leave the cave through the other end, you reach the refugee camp at the prison or the supply shed. Watch out for exploding mushrooms! At both places, you can still talk to tieflings and secure more loot, including useful potions.
SPOILER ON FURTHER PROCEEDINGS: Findal himself only helps you to a limited extent. He will support you later in an optional fight; otherwise, you have only performed a good deed, which may earn you some praise from your companions.
You should avoid the middle exit in the cave for now. There are only traps waiting for you and a door that you probably cannot open at the moment. However, there is also nothing behind it that you cannot obtain later in an easier way.
With Season 5 came a few new features to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. Among them were dogs, the new Battle-Pets. Unfortunately, the companions come with advantages when you buy and deploy them.
Over the past years, Call of Duty has brought new types of cosmetics to the game from time to time. Some experiments were really off, like the skins for killcams in CoD: Vanguard.
However, we are now at a point where some players might wish for those crazy experiments back. Because Call of Duty is currently introducing more and more pay-to-win mechanics into the game, each time through cosmetics that require players to pay a hefty price.
The latest gimmick: Battle-Pets. These are animals that accompany you invisibly and only appear when you’ve selected and deployed the correct execution move. Such things existed before, even with birds or wolves. However, new is that the animals can provide certain advantages.

Why is the dog pay-to-win? The dog is named Merlin and modifies a strong perk that helps locate enemies: “Alarmed”.
As soon as an enemy looks at you from a direction you are not currently facing, you receive a visual signal on your screen. You can be sure: Somewhere in the direction of the signal is an enemy.
With Merlin, you also get an audio signal: the dog growls. A video on Reddit shows that this small detail can be an advantage:

It was only when the dog growled that one enemy in the room took another look around and discovered the thread creator in their hiding spot. The filing cabinet tactic didn’t work out. Enemies can also hear the growling – perhaps an attempt by the developers to mitigate the advantage a bit.
Is it really that bad? Worse. The dog Merlin with its howling continues a trend that pushes Call of Duty further towards pay-to-win.
The dog is also part of the controversial but very popular “Black Cell” package. Each season features a new package that also comes with level jumps for the Battle Pass. At €29.99, it is one of the most expensive skin bundles available.

Who is the feared Mid-Laner? LoL’s latest assassin Naafiri is currently, according to u.gg, one of the strongest Mid-Laners in the game – with an impressive win rate of 52.31 percent in all ranks.
As an assassin, Naafiri can perform in the jungle and on the mid lane with her kit. The data clearly shows that she currently shines only as a Mid-Laner – presumably, that will stay that way for now. She is the red hound of the Hundred Bite, who fights with a pack and makes life difficult for many ADC players.
Like Kayne and Varus, Naafiri belongs to the Darkin champions. Her gameplay is said to be easier to learn compared to the notorious King of Assassins: Zed. However, currently, Naafiri is frequently banned due to her strength.

What makes Naafiri so strong? Naafiri is therefore one of the strongest Mid-Laners – closely followed by Zed, Fizz, Xerath, and Malzahar. The AD Mid-Laner probably attracts the same player types that also enjoy playing other assassins like Zed and Qiyana.

The design manager Stephen Auker of Naafiri shared a statement on Twitter (via.twitter.com), explaining why they scrapped the nerf plans:
Earlier in the week, we said you could expect nerfs. We anticipated that the win rate would increase further. After a few days of observations, her win rate has stabilized. Her win rate has settled around 51 percent and 51.5 percent in the average MMR. In high ranks, she performs between 49 percent and 49.5 percent.

The survival MMO Coreborn was released a few weeks ago in Early Access on Steam and can be tried out at gamescom 2023. This way you can test the game before investing 24.99 euros. With Coreborn, the Indie Arena Booth has at least one title in 2023 that you should definitely check out.
What is Coreborn? Coreborn is a survival MMO featuring classic elements of the genre. This includes building, crafting, and action-based combat. By gathering resources in the world, we can create buildings, weapons, gear, and food.
The unique aspect of the game is that we need to protect our developed city, which we can expand over time, from waves of monsters. We can take on the defense ourselves or alternatively hire friends or strangers in the game’s hub.
The game has gained attention in the past primarily because former RBTV employee Hauke Gerdes is involved as the Creative Director. The title is based on the world of “Ultracore,” which he designed.
The world was part of a pen & paper format at Rocket Beans and is based on the open-source rule set “How to be a Hero”.

Why is a visit to gamescom worth it? At gamescom, you can try games for free and see if a game might be for you. If you don’t like the game during the demo, you don’t have to spend the 24.99 euros for it.
The big advantage of Coreborn is also that it is not found in the main halls. Here is the largest crowd of visitors since AAA games are presented in these halls. However, this comes with long wait times: six-hour wait times for a game are not even the maximum.

The team can take your feedback directly and often implement it better than AAA titles in the main halls. In those halls, there are usually only hostesses present who have nothing to do with the actual development.
I even felt this myself: when I had a question about AAA titles, it often couldn’t be answered. In the indie sector, it’s different: last year, I was able to speak directly with the developer of the acclaimed indie RPG Chained Echoes.
In the indie sector, we directly see the feedback from the developers and responsible parties when we have compliments or criticism about a game. Together with the shorter wait times than in the main halls, visiting the booth is really recommendable.
If you decide to visit gamescom this year, you should definitely check out Coreborn. It is the only MMO found in the Indie Arena.

Who is the legend?
Matt Mercer is known as the Dungeon Master of Critical Role, the probably most famous D&D campaign(s) in the world. Critical Role streams the sessions on Twitch and even got its own series on Amazon.
Mercer’s “homebrews” are popular expansions among D&D players. Now he has even impressed the boss of Baldur’s Gate 3 with his creativity.
This is what Mercer shows: For the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, Matt Mercer and Larian CEO Swen Vincke streamed the game live on the store page for the game on Steam. In one scene, the D&D professional gained access to a castle.
Instead of bribing the city guards or coming through the back door, Matt Mercer simply stacked dozens of crates on top of each other to build himself higher. When he was finally high enough, he shot himself onto the castle wall with a teleport arrow:
