Epic Games has announced an offer to PC game developers that is hard to refuse. Anyone who brings a PC game exclusively to the Epic Game Store and not, for example, to Steam or the Xbox Game Pass, will receive 100% of the earnings for 6 months.

The program is called “Epic First Run” and was announced today, on August 23rd, by Epic Games. Those who participate in the program will receive 100% of the sales revenue from the game’s sales for 6 months. Epic Games is waiving its 12% share during this period.
The offer applies to developers who want to release a game on or after October 16th, exclusively in the Epic Game Stores.

Why is this such a problem for many gamers? Most PC gamers have their game collection on Steam, in one place. There, there are achievements and forums where they can discuss the games.

However, Valkyrae doesn’t cope with the long gaming sessions with her streamer friends as well as she used to a few years ago. Between back pain and calls from her financial advisor, the 31-year-old recently felt that she might not have much longer left:
During the gamescom 2023, our author Mark Sellner had the opportunity to see about 30 minutes of live gameplay of the new survival MMO Nightingale. A battle in the open world particularly stands out positively in his memory.
What did I see? In a roughly 45-minute presentation at Inflexion Games, I was allowed to watch the first steps in Nightingale, as well as a battle later in the game. How did the fight go? The developers discovered a Sun Giant while exploring the realm; these are truly huge creatures that initially don’t want to harm anyone. The giant lives up to its name and is at least 10 times the size of the player characters.
It is a peaceful and at least partially intelligent creature. It doesn’t attack immediately. Instead, it allows the players to offer it a sacrifice. After the telescope, which one of the developers held, seemingly didn’t please it, they prepare for battle.
They do this by building a small town around the giant. With towers to shoot from and bridges over the swamp to avoid the dangerous water where the Sun Giant is currently resting comfortably.
Once the small fortress is ready, one of the developers fires the first shot from his tower. A battle begins that I have never experienced in any open world.
Players fly, buildings shatter, and the giant falls
How do they defeat the oversized enemy? During the fight, one of the developers explains to me that the giant has various weak points that he tries to hit. This also inflicts significant damage on him.
But then the giant swings, and the developer’s character is hit. And flies really far away. As far as one would fly if a ton-heavy palm hit you. With the flying umbrella, you can avoid fall damage, but are now hundreds of meters away from your comrades.
One of whom, by the way, went down at that moment. While he tries to return to the scene, you can see the players’ towers collapse and shatter as the giant strikes at them.
The bridges also cannot withstand the giant’s magical beams and catapult one of the developers directly into the toxic water, which gives him a debuff.
In early access, new content will be added regularly. However, how long the game will stay in early access is currently still unknown. The developers are not sure either, as they assured me. It will take several years, according to the CEO.

What’s the deal with the hourly wage? On August 15, 2023, Jules published a nearly 40-minute video about Elon Musk. The video received over 1.3 million views within a week. Those who think that should really pay off for the YouTuber are mistaken.
On August 22, Jules shared on Twitter how much money he earned with the video: 1,587 €. This corresponds to an hourly wage of 5.29 €, according to the YouTuber. Mathematically, this means he put around 300 hours into the production of the video.
However, this amount only refers to the ad revenue; sponsors are not included – without them, he wouldn’t even make such elaborate videos anymore, explains Jules.

Why is it so little? Compared to other YouTubers, Jules publishes relatively few videos, which are quite long and elaborately produced. It seems that this type of content is hardly worthwhile anymore: “Nowadays, YouTube is just not made for that anymore,” suspects Jules.

During the gamescom, our author Mark Sellner visited Path of Exile 2 and was able to not only check out the latest class but also play the beginning of the ARPG himself. And it gets a lot right from the start.
What exactly did Path of Exile 2 show? At the beginning of the meeting with Chris Wilson, the studio founder of Grinding Gear Games and responsible for Path of Exile, I was allowed to see the new class first. It is the Druid, who promptly transforms into the classic bear form.
During a short demo, I learn that the Druid in Path of Exile 2 has much more depth than in his self-chosen comparison in Diablo 4. Because the Druid has, in addition to the bear form, also a wolf form and more. However, they did not want to reveal exactly how many.
Presenting me the bear form almost invites a comparison to Diablo 4. And that is worth it, because Path of Exile 2 has nothing to hide from Blizzard. I realize this a few minutes later when I’m invited to play the first hour of Path of Exile 2 myself.
It becomes very clear, even now, more than a year before release, that Path of Exile 2 does at least 3 things better than Diablo 4.

The atmosphere shows Diablo what really dark means
How does PoE 2 start? From the very first steps, it becomes clear that Path of Exile 2 can flex its muscles. I start as a Monk on a beach, unconscious. The screen and the surroundings slowly open up as the oppressive black gradually reveals the inhospitable coast.
It is night on the map and it is raining heavily. The raindrops bead off my character’s skin, and the wind rustles the scraps of my armor up and down. Despite so many effects, the game runs smoothly; however, I do not know what hardware is inside the PC I was allowed to play on.
In any case, the game makes it clear to me after a few seconds that it is a graphical powerhouse. Path of Exile 2 looks graphically worlds better than its predecessor and can easily keep up with Diablo 4.
What makes the atmosphere so strong? On the beach, drowned people are wandering around, and the Exiles are fighting for their survival, accompanied by a soundscape that reaches deep into your bones. Everything in this world is dark, dangerous, and inhospitable.
These nice characters await you in Path of Exile 2
This is already made clear by Diablo 4 within the first few steps, but generally the world in Path of Exile 2 feels more coherent, darker, and meaner. Although the story presentation cannot keep up with Blizzard, at least the first maps are designed at the highest level.
This strong atmosphere is also contributed by the first fights that are actually no walk in the park, on the contrary.
Path of Exile 2 already gives me a challenge in the first minutes
How is fighting? The combat system feels significantly better, especially in direct comparison to its predecessor. Many abilities have gap closers, allowing you to get several meters closer to the enemies without having to move actively.
This ensures that PoE 2 feels really fluid and fast in every fight. The new dodge roll fulfills the remaining part.
Already after the first 15 minutes, my Monk has found 3 abilities and jumps around the enemies as if he had been a gymnast at the Olympics once. It is really fun, but at the same time also very difficult.
The game takes me as a player seriously: Before I even find the first quest or the first NPC, I stumble upon a miniboss while exploring the map, who, and one cannot say otherwise, really knocks my lights out.
My Monk bites the dust despite healing potions because I thought a couple of times that I didn’t need to dodge. That was definitely my mistake, but it shows that the first enemies in Path of Exile 2 are already a challenge if I’m not careful.
Even with lightning and ice, the Monk bites the dust quickly.
I really like that and I missed it in Diablo 4. Of course, Diablo also becomes incredibly demanding at some point, at the latest the Butcher has proven that. But regarding fights, I always felt bored in Diablo during the first hours. Path of Exile 2 doesn’t allow that, so this point goes to Grinding Gear Games.
By the way, as a little half point for those who were wondering: Path of Exile 2 brings back the genre-typical transparent map of the environment, which you can use while running.
The Power Fantasy feels like even more power
What is the Power Fantasy? Uniquely, one of the selling points of Diablo 4. Blizzard likes to speak of the “ultimate Power Fantasy”, as also recently during the Opening Night Live. But in my opinion, Path of Exile 2 is far ahead here. To explain this, one must understand the skill system of PoE 2.
You have the option to equip 8 different skills. You do this, as in the predecessor, through skill gems that you find in the world. Each of these skills can then be supported by 6 additional skills, thereby enhancing, changing, or even automating it.
For example, from the gameplay: I have a little volcano that I can place on the ground. As another skill, I have a lightning storm available. Now I find the spell “Use on Cast”, which is a third spell.
My Monk already has access to this ability at level 2
Then I use the new spell “Use on Cast” in the volcano, which has another slot where I subsequently place my lightning storm. From now on, a lightning storm casts automatically around the volcano when I place one, without any further input from me.
Similar combos early in the game: Even my Monk at level three already has similar possibilities. So I quickly find out, and much more straightforward than in the predecessor, how I can turn a simple hit on the ground into jumping lightning that travels in lethal lines across the ground.
Additionally, there’s the possibility to distribute passive skill points multiple times and to bind them to each weapon set.
All in all, Path of Exile 2 not only provides me with the power fantasy of having absolute control and power over my character and his powerful abilities, but also visually the first spells already look so much more impressive than what Diablo 4 has managed.
Thus, Path of Exile 2 achieves that I feel both weak and challenged, as well as incredibly strong and powerful.
Conclusion after the first hour
How did I like the first hour? As you can probably tell from this text, it was fantastically good. If Path of Exile 2 manages to maintain the level of the first hours throughout the entire game, I have high hopes for the MMO.
The fights are fun, the skill system has not lost any depth, but has become significantly more accessible for newcomers, and the graphics are great.
Of course, everyone can have their own opinion about the title, but after the first hour in PoE 2, my anticipation for the game has only increased. For me, already a clear winner when comparing it to Diablo 4.
For those who can make compromises in terms of presentation and story and enjoy tinkering a bit longer with their character to find the strongest combinations, Path of Exile 2 is definitely worth checking out.

Although the second season of World of Warcraft Dragonflight has been running for several months now, there are still regularly different adjustments to the dungeons. This time, however, it affects not just one instance, but all of them.
What is changing? On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, there was a small hotfix in World of Warcraft. It introduced a fairly significant change, as it alters how strongly “Mythic+” dungeons scale. The change is:
Above keystone level 20, each additional level increases the health and damage of the enemies by 8% (previously 10%).

What was the problem? Since the introduction of the Enhancement Caller, the ratings in the “Mythic+” area have gone a bit out of control. For several weeks, there has been a so-called “God Comp” that represented the perfect team of specializations. Played flawlessly, this team could complete mythic keystones up to three levels higher than all other groups. In other words: The combo was simply completely overpowered.
However, this is a problem because the corresponding groups now have such a high rating that others can hardly reach them. This is particularly annoying because a high rating at the end of the season is rewarded with special titles.
With the nerf to all dungeons above level 20, it should now be possible to complete dungeons a few levels higher again. This should give everyone the chance to still participate in the fight for the titles.

One game that has been speculated for months is Hades. The roguelike from the acclaimed indie studio Supergiant Games celebrated huge success in 2020. The visuals and smooth gameplay continue to impress today. Hades 2 has even been announced, and as an indie title, the game would fit into PS Plus Essential like Death’s Door.
Disco Elysium
After the current success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Disco Elysium would also be a good candidate for PS Plus Essential. It has a similar gameplay principle to BG 3 but is set in a completely different setting. You play as a detective who has to solve a murder case. Themes include politics, psyche, and personal morals and philosophy.
Crash Team Racing

Entertainer
What can the talent do? With this talent, you increase your charisma and skill in handling musical instruments by only one point. At first, this sounds very tempting, but there is already a specific class in this field: the Bard. The bard can play musical instruments on his own.
Why it’s not worth it: Furthermore, you can learn the ability “Play musical instruments“ from the NPC Alfira in the Emerald Grove. She needs help to complete her song, and you help her with that. Afterward, you receive a lute and the talent “Play musical instruments“.
You can also choose the Actor talent, which also gives you +1 charisma and additionally doubles your proficiency bonus on Deception and Performance.
Weapon Master
What can the talent do? Weapons play an essential role in Baldur’s Gate 3. You might be tempted to take the path of the Weapon Master. The Weapon Master grants you expertise in the handling of four weapons that you can choose at will. Additionally, you can increase either your strength or dexterity by one point.
Why it’s not worth it: As a Barbarian, for example, you will already be practiced with several weapons. Therefore, the Weapon Master talent is not worth it.
When you choose a class, you already have knowledge of the weapons you are likely to want to play. The Weapon Master talent simply does too little.
Barroom Brawler
What can the talent do? When you make an unarmed attack, use an improvised weapon, or throw something, you add your strength modifier twice to your damage and attack rolls. Additionally, you gain a +1 bonus to Constitution or Strength.
Why it’s not worth it: Barroom Brawler might be worthwhile as a Berserker Barbarian, Monk, or Moon Druid. If your Monk’s strength is higher than your dexterity, then you attack with your strength modifier. However, the talent is more suitable for more specific builds, like a Monk-Rogue multiclass. So there are indeed more efficient talents that offer more suitable bonuses.
Choosing talents is a matter of taste: These talents may simply be less strong and useful compared to others. What may be “bad“ for one player could be super useful for another player in certain situations. So it cannot be said in general which talents perform particularly poorly.
If you prefer to increase your main attribute (for example Wisdom), you can choose the ability score improvement instead of a talent. You can also find the ability score improvement under talents and choose it at levels 4, 8, and 12.
With the ability score improvement, you can increase one attribute by 2 or two attributes by one. This way, you can bring your Wisdom to 20 faster. Remember that only even numbers give you a bonus on rolls.
