The new MMORPG SpiritVale has launched in Early Access on Steam, but the reviews are quite poor. The reason for this is actually positive.
What kind of MMORPG is this? SpiritVale is a new MMORPG that aims to be “like it used to be.” Therefore, the developers have intentionally created a game that leaves comfortable, new features aside. Instead, there are many elements that are no longer found in today’s games.
The marketplace is completely player-driven. At the same time, character development is diverse and also determined by the player.
SpiritVale is also old school in terms of teamwork. Large raids, groups that need to be specifically assembled for dungeons, and guild structures are part of the MMORPG.

Hype at Launch
Why is the MMORPG rated so poorly? At the launch of the MMORPG, 15,000 players stormed the servers (Source: SteamDB). Too much for the small game, which did not expect such high player numbers for Early Access.
As a result, players faced poor experiences filled with lags and server crashes. On Steam, the MMORPG currently holds only a 42% positive rating and is balanced overall. Most of the negative reviews on Steam revolve around the bad servers. But also the camera control and technical difficulties are dragging down the rating.
Positively, the game seems to appeal to veterans who have been following the title since the beta. They are excited about the launch into Early Access and likely see the potential of the MMORPG.
What makes SpiritVale special? SpiritVale is likely special due to its strict focus on being an old school MMORPG. While the genre has changed and evolved significantly, everything here is designed to feel as though no time has passed.
Only in terms of graphics does the game slightly break from its own idea. Though comic-like, it has a slightly cute touch. Already in the trailer, it resembles Animal Crossing more than World of Warcraft, while there have always been MMORPGs aiming to win our hearts with cute aesthetics.
