On Steam, the closed beta of Arkheron starts this week, and it can be quite worthwhile. The team from Bonfire Studios, consisting of former Blizzard developers, has come up with a lot for their test week.
What kind of game is this? Arkheron is difficult to describe because it mixes many different genres into one game. You play in a team with two other players against 14 other teams. Instead of characters, you find weapons and items in the game – similar to a battle royale.
The weapons determine which abilities you use against other players. So you experience the typical “fight with what you find” feeling. At the same time, the abilities resemble those of MMORPGs while the top-down view and tactics fit more with MOBAs.
Arkheron mixes many genres and thus creates a whole new creation that is likely to appeal to fans of PvP in MMORPGs.

New closed beta is coming up
What can you test now? The developers of Arkheron are currently repeatedly testing changes to the game, new features, and balancing before it goes to release. This week, there is again the opportunity to participate in such a test.
You can test two modes, with the game mode “Spires” always supposed to be active, while “Ascension” only goes live at certain times. Here, the developers likely want to focus specifically on the game mode to gather feedback with enough players.
Playable will also be matches against bots, in addition to the tutorial mode, that should first show you how Arkheron works before you have to face real opponents. There is also an MMR system already in place to give you a chance against the veterans.
How can you participate? The invitations to the closed beta are handled through Steam. There you can click the green “Request Access” button and then hope that you will be invited at the start on Wednesday.
The playtest runs until Sunday and also offers you some events and various experiments from the developers. So logging in on different days is worthwhile.
