Anyone who decides to buy a new Xbox in the store has the choice between the Series S and the Series X. A woman wanted to make her children happy and bought them an Xbox so they could play “Killer Klowns from Outer Space“. However, the many different console names caused confusion.
The “wrong” console with the X
Which console did the mother buy? In a post on Reddit, the user ggf66t shares that his wife apparently “fell victim to the confusing naming of Xbox consoles.” She wanted to make her children happy and buy a console so they could play “Killer Klowns from Outer Space.” The husband had previously explained to his wife that the game does not work on the old Xbox One that the family owns. For that, one needs one of the new consoles – either the Series X or the Series S.
The mother found what seemed like a good deal for a “new” Xbox console along with the game on Amazon and seized the opportunity. But on Christmas morning came the harsh reality: The children excitedly unwrapped the sleek white Xbox and the game, but the joy did not last long.
The game could not be launched – because the woman had bought an Xbox One X instead of an Xbox Series X. She was convinced she had secured the right console.
Because the “Xbox One X” does not belong to the current console generation, the Xbox Series S/X, but rather to the last console generation and was released in 2017. The “Xbox One X” is, so to speak, the “PS4 Pro” in the Xbox variant.
If she had chosen a PlayStation, the selection would probably have been simpler – the naming of the consoles is significantly less confusing.

What the community says about it: In the comments section, users take up the topic. The top comment comes from JackCooper_7274. He comments that PlayStation has done it right from the start. “PlayStation, PlayStation 2 [to] PlayStation 5, what a wonderful way to organize their products,” he writes.
In a comment, Teddy293 lists the variety of Nintendo handhelds that can also cause confusion. Reasonable-Treat4146 responds that at least most games are compatible between the devices. “In the end, it was more about which console one could afford and which one one liked better,” he adds.
