After the reveal on Netflix, not only did pre-orders for GTA 6 significantly increase – the PS5 Pro is also in much higher demand, which is already causing issues.
What is the problem? As Techpowerup.com reports, the stock of PS5 Pro consoles in the USA has been virtually depleted, and the prices for any remaining units have skyrocketed, after GTA 6 aired its exclusive deep dive on Netflix. Third-party sellers like Amazon or Walmart would demand around $1,300 for a console that normally costs $899.
The PS5 Pro is still being offered at the regular price in the official PlayStation Store, but it is currently not available, and it is unclear when new stock will be available.
The reasons for this include, among others, an explicit optimization of the game for the PS5 Pro and a much later release for the PC.
If you think, “Yes, but these are just the USA,” you should pause, because the situation here is not much different at the moment.
Current Prices and Delivery Times for the PS5 Pro Are Rising Here as Well
How is the interest affecting us here in Germany? We are also seeing similar effects on the market. Just like in the USA, the official store still offers a PS5 Pro with 2 TB of storage for €899.99 – however, it is currently not available here either.
So if you want to get a PS5 Pro to play GTA 6, you will either have to wait and hope or rely on other shops, such as:
- Amazon
- Price at €999.00, but usually ready for shipment in 3–7 months (Link)
- If you want a deliverable console from third-party sellers on Amazon, you currently have to expect between €1,164 and €1,558.33.
- MediaMarkt | Saturn
With providers like Otto and others, the console is sometimes no longer visible in the Pro version, and it is unclear when it will be available again.
On eBay, classified ads, or similar portals, there are also numerous listings for new or used consoles – but here you should be especially careful due to the current high interest.
Because here, prices can quickly be inflated or there can be cases of fraud if you are not cautious. So, check each offer preferably multiple times to ensure everything is correct and that the seller is indeed reputable. The consumer advice center has, for example, posted some tips and tools on its website to help you check offers.
Comparison portals like idealo can help find good offers, but looking at the overview, it doesn’t look too promising at the moment.
It is hard to predict when the situation will change again. So, if you want to get a PS5 Pro before GTA 6 releases on November 19, you should either hurry or be patient.
