The Twitch streamer MontanaBlack had an aquarium in the background for years, which he was visibly proud of. Now it is being removed for animal welfare reasons.
What was MontanaBlack criticized for? Anyone who follows MontanaBlack’s streams on Twitch will have certainly noticed the prominently placed aquarium in the background. It was particularly visible in his earlier streams. Meanwhile, the streamer has other setups from which he livestreams.
MontanaBlack always seemed very proud of his saltwater aquarium and regularly provided updates on the new fish he acquired. A famous meme also emerged because of the aquarium: Monte, your aquarium is on fire.
But one person found the aquarium problematic: animal rights activist and marine biologist Robert Marc Lehmann. In many of his YouTube videos, he criticized the Twitch streamer and wanted to explain to him the issues concerning the keeping of fish. This dispute between the two lasted over 5 years.

What happened to the aquarium now? Initially, MontanaBlack resisted this criticism and did not want to acknowledge that there could indeed be problematic aspects to keeping the fish. But eventually, he recognized his mistake and wanted to follow Robert Marc Lehmann’s advice not to keep the fish in his aquarium anymore.
Now, the two German content creators met with an aquarist in MontanaBlack’s old gaming headquarters and emptied the aquarium. MontanaBlack summarized his thoughts on the topic:
I always thought that the people who do this know what they’re doing. I don’t want to discredit their knowledge, but when they told me “It’s okay” and “It’s not a problem that these are wild catches, that’s fine,” I said “Okay, that works.” And when you criticized me back then and said, “They don’t know what they’re talking about,” I then said, “No, he can kiss my ass. What is this crap? Don’t talk to me like that.” And then you broke it down for me with expertise so that I basically watched my own debauchery, and then I just preferred to keep my mouth shut.

The fish were moved to an aquarium where they have more space in the tanks and are kept in a species-appropriate manner after the joint dismantling.
MontanaBlack also received support from the community for the action. Many commented under a Reddit post that they were glad that the Twitch streamer acknowledged something and acted accordingly.
