Why doesn’t Gronkh have fun? While the Twitch streamer Gronkh says that his job is not really difficult, it seems that behind the scenes it looks different sometimes.
In one of his streams (compilation on YouTube), he mentioned that he received a love letter
from the tax office. He had just finished a tax audit. The streamer complains: “Some shit” always comes up.

How do other streamers handle it? Other German Twitch streamers or YouTubers are likely familiar with this bureaucratic effort as self-employed individuals. Especially content creators who experience a massive hype and suddenly earn a lot of money often do not realize that they need to set something aside for taxes. Then they find themselves deeply in debt.

The solution for many means emigrating. While Gronkh seems to see emigration as no option for him, other influencers have already relocated their primary residence, for example, to the Portuguese island of Madeira.
Madeira offered the streamers the advantage of tax relief: The government had introduced the so-called NHR status
, which provided tax benefits to newcomers. This status no longer exists – it was discontinued in January 2024 – but at that time, the relocated influencers benefited enormously from it.
