In World of Warcraft, players used to work for weeks to obtain a mount. Those days are now over – as you simply get it for free.
The oldest veterans from World of Warcraft can still remember that players had to farm for many days to eventually own a mount. Some had to farm for a long time or beg their friends and guildmates for money to avoid having to walk through the landscape.
But that time is finally over. Unlocking the riding skill in World of Warcraft will not only be free but will also happen automatically.
What will change about riding? With Patch 10.1.5, characters will automatically learn their riding skill once they reach the required level. It will no longer be necessary to visit a riding instructor, and the training fee will be completely eliminated.
In the future, veterans and newcomers alike will save a lot of gold while leveling, which can then be invested in other things, such as gear, potions, or fancy mounts.
How riding has changed over the years: In the first version of World of Warcraft, heroes could only ride on a mount through Azeroth quite late. At level 40, players learned the “normal” riding skill, provided they had enough gold. At level 60, the “epic” riding followed – again under the condition that they could raise the gold. Because for epic riding, players needed almost 1,000 gold pieces, which could mean several weeks of farming back in the “Vanilla” days.
Over the years and expansions, this has become easier. Riding can now be learned much earlier – as early as level 10 – and the gold costs are, aside from epic flying, nearly trivial. Most characters collect enough gold while questing to afford riding.
When will the change be implemented? There is no release date for Patch 10.1.5 yet. Given Blizzard’s current release speed, it is likely to be at the end of June or early July. As soon as there is a reliable date, we will of course report on it.
