Palworld 1.0 is really fun and MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß currently spends a few hours in the game every day. However, she levels incredibly slowly, and that is probably entirely her own fault: She just needs to do what Mrs. Weasley advises everyone in Harry Potter – stop dawdling.
Most of my time has been spent in the unfinished version of Palworld, simply due to about 2.5 years of early access. In it, I built bases, liquefied Pals, and visited the patched islands. So far, so good.
Now Palworld 1.0 is out, and as recommended by the developers, I of course started a completely new game save. However, collecting experience points takes a really long time – leveling drags on like chewing gum. I didn’t have that in mind from the early access.
But maybe – and really only maybe – the problem is with me and not the game? Because I do love to dawdle.
Playing Palworld like a squirrel on speed: always distracted
Of course, there are ways and means to level up quickly in Palworld and progress further. How to do that, we present on MeinMMO in a dedicated guide. So I could just open the article and follow the tips. But that’s not how I operate.
No, I start the game and run around like a squirrel on speed:
- Over there is a landmass – I absolutely have to explore it.
- Is there a treasure chest over there? Very good, I’ll take it with me.
- Oh, there’s a Lifmuk statue glowing back there! Perfect, I still needed that.
- Meteors are also falling in my surroundings repeatedly – another distraction that makes dawdling easier for me.
And so it goes on all the time.
It gets even worse when I find new Pals. They want to be caught – regardless of whether they are at or above my current level. Then I just die in the fight. Since the normal difficulty has also been adjusted, and you no longer lose all your gear? That’s fine.
But then always comes the walk back from the base to the last location
along with it. That takes time, and in the about two hours I can invest in the evening, that really adds up.
Correspondingly, even two weeks after release, I am only slowly approaching level 20. Which is only minimally annoying, when I actually want to go to the World Tree and the endgame.
A bit of discipline could help – or a good mount
However, to say that my own dawdling annoys me would certainly be too much of a good thing. I actually enjoy rediscovering the familiar world completely anew. I have long forgotten where the Lifmuk statues are or where I encounter enemy NPCs since 2024. Additionally, the treasure chests and events scattered throughout the world reward curiosity.
Annoying during exploration is actually just the fact that the original islands are so traversed by water. My character does not have enough stamina at a low level to fly over straits or even swim through them. It gets even worse when I have to jump from one cliff to another. Searching for a suitable crossing is really no fun.
Maybe I should invest even more time in focused leveling precisely for this reason: With a higher level, I can improve my stamina. Moreover, mount Pals are easier and faster to catch then. Currently, I have a great Direhowl for normal ground and a Chillet for water. But with a flying Pal, I could simply … fly. Which would completely solve my problem with all the water between the islands.
Alternatively, I could, of course, just join my colleague and our MeinMMO shooter expert Dariusz Müller: He has set up Palworld so that he not only levels up ridiculously fast but also has a lot of fun doing it. The inspiration? A four-year-old child: I play Palworld like a 4-year-old, it’s surprisingly fun and saves the 1.0 release for me
