A man from New York has been wondering for some time about a large amount of fan mail arriving at his address. The reason: He lives where Peter Parker usually resides.
When 64-year-old Jack Shi bought a house in New York three years ago, he had no idea what consequences that would have. The building is located in the Queens neighborhood, is made of bricks, and contains four bedrooms and bathrooms.
The address happens to be the one where Peter Parker usually stays with Aunt May. Marvel fans might have noticed this when purchasing, but Jack Shi was probably not into superheroes, which is why he didn’t notice the coincidence.
Meanwhile, he is fully aware that he shares an address with Peter Parker. He has even begun to take his role as Spider-Man’s representative seriously.
With great power comes great responsibility
What consequences did the house purchase have? In an interview with the New York Post, Jack Shi reported on numerous fan letters arriving at the address, addressed directly to Spider-Man or Peter Parker.
Since the theatrical release of Brand New Day, the number of letters has likely increased even more. Some people also travel from far away to visit the address. Shi has since become accustomed to it and accepts his fate:
I feel a little responsible because Spider-Man embodies the American spirit. If I live here, I should act like Spider-Man. If someone wants to take a picture, I say yes.”

Shi is thus practicing his role as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and is taking care of the fans who show up at his door. And he also reads the fans’ letters diligently. They ask the really important questions: “Spider-Man, how do you manage to do the things you do, like saving the world?”
Another, presumably young fan asks: “Can you come to my house to play? We can watch TV together.”
Whether Jack Shi will soon don the red suit himself and swing through New York with a web shooter, we unfortunately do not know. How would you deal with it if you suddenly owned such a famous house?
