In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Peter Parker has some problems he has to deal with. For one, he relies on science and technology, but this could have jeopardized the future of a well-known Marvel group.

In Marvel’s latest film, Peter (Tom Holland) not only has to deal with a new enemy. As the trailers have already revealed, his abilities seem to be changing, which leads him to Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), the Hulk.
Thanks to Bruce’s research, Peter invents a device that can suppress his powers. However, Peter might have inadvertently created one of the worst weapons against a certain group of superheroes.
The Perfect Weapon Against Mutants
What does Peter invent in the film? Peter builds a kind of inhibitor in Brand New Day that is supposed to keep his abilities in check. This is all based on Bruce Banner’s technology, which specifically suppresses the Hulk’s gamma radiation to prevent transformation.
However, Peter’s version goes even further and seems to be universal, as seen in the film. Although Peter had good intentions, this invention could have serious consequences, especially for mutants and X-Men, who are soon to be added to the MCU.
Why is it so dangerous for the X-Men? Mutants are often in conflict with many humans in most comics. They gain their powers through a specific gene, and this should also apply to upcoming mutants, such as those appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
Villains in many X-Men stories use devices to suppress mutant powers, capturing and imprisoning them. This is evident in the X-Men 97′
series. From such a thought, a scientist also invented the Sentinels, mutant-hunting super robots.
In the comic series X-Men/Fantastic Four from 2020, it is revealed that Mister Fantastic built such a device – initially just to hide his son’s mutant status. However, he also had the theory to suppress or even rewrite the X-gene with it (Source: Marvel.com).
Similarly, MJ (Zendaya) and Bruce Banner discuss Peter’s device. They warn him that his research is a significant intervention and question the ethics behind it.
It is therefore not unlikely that an organization, such as Damage Control, has seized the device to further develop it. An approach that Damage Control has already demonstrated in the film with weapons used by villains.
Mutants Could Become the Next Big Thing
How likely is it that Peter’s inhibitor will become important again? It is already known that the X-Men will appear in Avengers: Doomsday and that the X-Men will likely also get their own film. At least there are reports about the cast (via Deadline). Mutants also exist in the normal universe, as confirmed by the Ms. Marvel series.
Also, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the X-Men already play a distant role. Therefore, it is quite likely that such an inhibitor will still be used. After all, the comparison between humans and mutants is a core conflict of the X-Men, and there are always researchers who want to suppress or eliminate the X-gene.
