You can play Diablo 4 on the Steam Deck. And getting there is surprisingly easy. MeinMMO explains how you can install Diablo 4 on your Steam Deck in 5 steps. You only need a valid Diablo license on your PC. By now, you can also conveniently buy and install Diablo 4 directly through Steam.
Diablo 4 has launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox, and now some are wondering whether the hack and slash can also be installed and played on the Steam Deck. And it actually works without major problems. So you don’t need to install Windows on your Steam Deck.
What you need: You definitely need a valid Diablo 4 license on your PC. You cannot use the PS5 or Xbox version for this. Either you have already purchased the game on Steam or Battle.net.
What options are there? Currently, there are two options, depending on where you purchased Diablo 4:
- If you bought Diablo 4 on Steam, you can install the game directly and easily on your Steam Deck. Diablo 4 has received the status “Verified” on the Steam Deck. To do this, simply select the game in your library and choose “Install.”
- If you purchased Diablo 4 via Battle.net, the installation is a bit more complicated. You can find the guide to it here in our article.
If you purchased the game on Battle.net, you also need the free software “Lutris”:
Lutris is an open-source program to install games quickly and easily on Linux. Lutris also offers the ability to install games in the Wine runtime environment on Linux systems using scripts. And Steam OS is based on Linux.

Battle.net: Install Diablo 4 on the Steam Deck in 5 Steps
Here’s how to install Diablo 4 on the Steam Deck:
- Open the desktop mode on your Steam Deck by pressing the Steam button, selecting “Power,” and then switching to desktop mode. We recommend connecting the Steam Deck to a monitor and using a mouse for this. Otherwise, the desktop view is extremely small and fiddly.
- Search for an app called Lutris on the “Discover” tab and install it.
- After installation, open Lutris and press the “+” button.
- Search for Battle.net and install the software.
- In the next step, log into your Battle.net account and download Diablo 4. The preload of Diablo 4 has already started, and you need to download about 90 GB.
Optional: If you want to start the game directly from the library view, you need to take one additional step. Then you have to add Diablo 4 as a “non-Steam game” to your account, as you would do on Windows:
- Select the “Games” tab at the top bar and then “Add a non-Steam game to my library”.
- Here, select Lutris, which you used to install Diablo 4.
If there are any issues: Now you can play Diablo 4 on the Steam Deck. If the game crashes or doesn’t run smoothly, you can also select the beta version of Proton:
- To do this, select the app in Steam, click on the gear icon, and select the “Properties” menu.
- Here, go to Compatibility and check the first menu item. Then you can choose a Proton version from a long list.
- We have had the best experience in the editorial office with “Proton Experimental” and have managed to get many games that are not officially supported by the Steam Deck running.
