What does the expert say about Gen Alpha and Roblox? PCGamer spoke with Emmanuel Rosier, the head of market research at Newzoo, about the preferences of young gamers and what their gameplay on PC looks like. Newzoo is a research company that collects and analyzes data on player behavior and the video game market itself.
Rosier makes two points regarding Gen Alpha (birth years between 2010 and 2024) that PCGamer highlights: Firstly, they do not care about graphics and features like ray tracing. Games like Minecraft, Fortnite, or Roblox do not need that. Rosier says: I don’t think young people who have been playing on phones or tablets since birth care much about visuals.

On the one hand, you need no powerful PC for platforms and games like Roblox, you just need a browser. Roblox is also free, and other games have a higher barrier:
I would say the chance exists that they will stay on Roblox because all their friends are still on Roblox, and there is this network effect, making it difficult to play Call of Duty alone or convince so many friends to play with you and spend 80 or 70 dollars to have a different experience. And I’m not sure if these teenagers or children will start playing other games once they grow up.

Although Rosier cannot yet prove these statements, according to his data, the average age of players on Roblox is increasing. He believes this is because existing players are aging and staying on the platform.
