Jason and Lucia from GTA 6 are a criminal couple whose dynamic was inspired by the most famous equivalent, Bonnie and Clyde. Besides their penchant for criminal activities, there are more similarities between the two couples than expected. And when you take a closer look at their story, you can see what this will mean for the game’s finale.
It is no secret that Rockstar wants to reinterpret the dynamic of the famous criminal couple Bonnie and Clyde through the characters of Jason and Lucia. The developers have already made several statements about this.
GTA 6 is deliberately staged as a “story in the style of Bonnie and Clyde,” as Rupert Humphries, Senior Vice President of Narrative at Rockstar, told Dazed Magazine.
Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, also explained to the French studio visitors from TroisCouleurs:
We considered different options but ultimately wanted to try a duo, a kind of partnership. When they are in a relationship or have the potential to enter one – how does that feel? So it’s about a couple, about Bonnie and Clyde.
The parallel between two couples who commit crimes together and are romantically involved is obvious here. However, since Rockstar has explicitly highlighted its inspiration on several occasions, it’s reasonable to assume that the influence is even greater than has been hinted at so far.
And this doesn’t just shape the character arcs of Jason and Lucia. Anyone who looks at the fates of their real-life inspirations will realize: If Rockstar really intends to retell the same story, then the finale of GTA 6 could be a real punch in the gut.
Lucia and Bonnie share the same goal and drive to achieve it
To clarify how valid this comparison of the two stories is, one can already see it in the protagonists from GTA 6. Let’s first look at Lucia and Bonnie.
Thanks to Rockstar, we already know that Lucia longs for the pleasant life she and her mother have dreamed of for a long time. Recently released from prison, she is seeking a way out of her current situation and is willing to do whatever it takes. “At any cost.” (Source: Rockstar)
Bonnie Parker also grew up in poverty as one of three children of a single mother during the Great Depression, dreaming of becoming a star from a young age. Until she met Clyde in January 1930, there were few opportunities for many people—and especially young women like her—to climb the social ladder. At the time, she was working as a waitress. Both Lucia and Bonnie are women who saw an opportunity and seized it. Bonnie did so when she encountered the small-time criminal Clyde, Lucia in several moments – such as her encounter with Raul Bautista – and also in her collaboration with Jason.
A shared life with Jason could be her way out.

Both are striving for fame and wealth or, in summary, a better life. Lucia hopes for better contacts, shows a lot of initiative, and wants to find further opportunities to enhance her reputation as a criminal.
Bonnie Parker was also more than thrilled by her portrayal as part of a criminal couple: She intentionally left photographs of herself and Clyde at crime scenes, posing as a gangster couple, and wrote her own romantic poems about the self-created myth of “Bonnie & Clyde.”
Jason and Clyde are both people who find themselves with no way out
Jason is a very different person from Lucia, as we have already noted in more detail in a previous article. He is calm, reserved, and longs more for the relaxed life than for social climbing.
This makes him not only the opposite of Lucia but even more similar to Clyde Barrow. While Bonnie consciously staged herself and her partner to make headlines that would make the couple ever more famous and feared, Clyde initially acted out of revenge.
The trigger for his criminal activity was revenge against the Texas prison system, where he had served a long and traumatic sentence. This was followed by several robberies of stores and banks, which at a certain point escalated to the extent that they eventually claimed the lives of not only civilians but also police officers. This is precisely the situation Jason is warned about by his mentor and boss Brian, as we could see in a deeper insight.

Clyde repeatedly expressed regret about the reality of his life. He regrets having dragged Bonnie into this life and that, in the end, there was nothing he could do to change it. Surrendering to the police meant, for him, either a return to the prison he despised … or the electric chair. (Source: EBSCO)
A Finale with a Bang
Given the many parallels between the two couples, it’s entirely possible that Rockstar was also inspired by the fate of the criminal couple. And spoiler alert: It was neither romantic nor pleasant.
After murdering several police officers, the two became wanted nationwide, drawing the attention of even the FBI (then still known as the Bureau of Investigation).
Ultimately, the two died in an ambush: They were betrayed by the family of a gang member who parked his car on a country road and removed a tire to fake a breakdown. Several police officers were lying in wait in the bushes and immediately opened fire when Clyde stopped his car to help the father of his partner with the supposed breakdown.

We don’t yet know if this will actually happen or if there’s any way to save the two of them from it. However, starting November 19, you might want to keep your eyes open and pay special attention in the game to anyone who acts strange or perhaps “too” cooperative towards you.
