Digimon is currently making a comeback. The franchise is more successful than ever before. Last time, it was doing well over 16 years ago when the anime first aired.
What’s going on with Digimon? Minami Udagawa is the president of Bandai Namco Entertainment and gave an interview to Famitsu regarding the global IP development. In the interview, she clarified that Digimon recorded the highest profits ever last year concerning the franchise:
Digimon Story: Time Stranger won the Future Division Award at the Japan Game Awards 2025 and became a global success. The combined success of the digital game and the trading card game surpassed the revenue of the anime airing in 2000, and the Digimon IP achieved the highest profits for the Bandai Namco Group.
The reason for this is partly the video game “Digimon Story: Time Stranger,” which was released last year. Additionally, the trading card game is also said to have contributed to the record profits that even exceed those of the anime.
Which anime are they referring to? The anime primarily refers to the first season of the “Digimon” series. It premiered in Germany in August 2000 on RTL 2 and aired daily.
Success is unlikely to stop
Will Digimon continue to be this successful? Just in July 2026, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions of Digimon Story: Time Stranger were released. Recently, the mobile game Digimon Up was added. In addition, a major DLC is planned for the year 2027. Therefore, Bandai Namco is still expecting further growth potential, according to Udagawa.
And if we take a look at the calendar, we see that next year is the 30th anniversary of Digimon. The first digital monster V-Pets appeared in 1997. So we can expect some exciting promotions for the 30th anniversary.
One thing we already know: In 2027, a new anime for Digimon is set to launch, as mentioned on X.
