Astaroth is one of the most well-known bosses in Diablo 4, as he confronts you relatively early in the main campaign and can also be farmed later since the release of Season 9 in a specific dungeon. We will show you where to find him and how to defeat him.
Where can I find Astaroth? To find Astaroth, you need to locate Escalation Sigils for Escalating Nightmares, which you can obtain from Horadrim Vaults among other sources. These appear in Nightmare dungeons at Torment levels. According to players, you can also craft Escalation Sigils by merging 5 Nightmare Sigils in the Horadrim Cube.
When you activate an Escalation Sigil, it takes you through several dungeons in succession that you must complete successfully. At the end of the dungeons, Astaroth awaits you with his Hellbeast to defeat him.
His fight is not without challenges, as he has several phases that you must survive. You can learn more about his battle in the following section.
Defeating Astaroth – How does his fight proceed?
What do I need to know about the fight? Astaroth has two phases in his fight, each with different combat styles that you should be aware of before encountering him.
In the first phase, Astaroth rides his mount “Amalgam of Wrath”. He attempts to reach you with jumping attacks and deal damage – additionally, he has flame attacks. You can evade both with well-timed jumps.
In the second phase, the Amalgam of Wrath dies, and you must temporarily deal with Astaroth. Do not feel safe, as his mount is only temporarily incapacitated. In a pool of blood and poison that continuously grows, the Amalgam regenerates its health.
During this time, you must focus entirely on Astaroth and deal damage. Astaroth’s new attacks include scythe attacks in close range and meteor showers from a distance. Occasionally, some minions are summoned that also want to attack you.
The goal in this phase is to reduce the health bars of both opponents, Astaroth and the Amalgam, to zero. If you succeed, the boss is defeated.
How do I get loot from Astaroth without defeating him? If you do not want to go through a dungeon journey to reach Astaroth’s loot, you can alternatively challenge Belial. However, for his reward chest, you need “Wrappings of the Traitor”, which you get from Belial when he randomly spawns after another boss fight.
Shortly after the fight against Belial, you can decide from which boss loot pool your reward should be drawn – here you should choose Astaroth. This way, you will receive items from the loot pool of the demonic rider from the reward chest.
