Based on the strong pre-orders, it is already clear that expectations, as well as trust in GTA 6, are high. However, certain factors could cause this excitement to fade quickly. The community explains what GTA 6 needs to get right in order not to lose its own community.
What demonstrates the strong trust in GTA 6? Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of the publisher Take-Two, spoke in an interview with CNBC about how the pre-sales of GTA 6 have been much better than they initially expected. Not just in volume, but also in the selection of the more expensive Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 for nearly 100 Euros.
The fans of the GTA series therefore have so much trust in the game even before the first gameplay reveal, which will likely appear on Netflix and YouTube on August 27, that they are willing to invest so much money as a show of trust.
In the same response from Zelnick, the CEO adds that the team must remain humble despite the trust in their own success:
We never declare victory until it is actually achieved […] No matter how great the anticipation may be, we must exceed expectations… I believe we will succeed.

And that is the right attitude when listening to some voices from the community. Because they certainly have some things that Rockstar must get right with GTA 6 to avoid disappointment.
Without a strong story, Rockstar will lose fans
What could ruin the game for fans? In the subreddit of GTA 6, fans discuss which aspects could lead to disappointment in their beloved game. The point that most clearly arises in response to this question is: the story.
From the comments, it is clear that a short, repetitive, and predictable story could not be excused. The community’s expectations are still quite lenient. No level is expected that Rockstar could achieve for Red Dead Redemption 2, but the narrative should still be given enough love.
Other relevant points aside from a weak story are repetitive missions, empty maps, or a potential over-monetization that players absolutely do not want.
MeinMMO editor Caro can understand the community very well: I remember that despite my enjoyment of GTA 5, I found the story and its characters to be rather weak. Yes, the game includes a lot of humor, but I can’t recall any story moment from GTA 5 that really grabbed me or that lingered with me afterward, unlike another open-world game like Cyberpunk 2077, where I praise the story as one of the best aspects.
However, I am optimistic because I believe that just having Lucia and Jason as their protagonists gives GTA 6 strong potential to overcome this weakness. From them, I expect not only the humor that is inherent to GTA but also emotions, tough choices, and maybe even pain and tears?
Sure, there are certainly people for whom the story in GTA 6 is more secondary, tertiary, or even 24th in importance… However, I believe that an anticipated giant like GTA 6 cannot afford a weak story.
