In World of Warcraft, sometimes strange things happen, and this seems to be the case with the current patch, as players observe their friends continuing to fight even after a disconnect.
On August 12, 2026, Patch 12.1 for WoW was released, which gives you new tasks to complete. New patches can also lead to new bugs, but this time it seems to be more extreme than usual, as even the community appears to be losing patience.
It seems that some players are currently observing rather strange occurrences. They report fighting characters that shouldn’t be there anymore.
Continue fighting like a zombie
What did players observe? The user Stuperstrong posted on Reddit that he observed two times how his friend, an Evoker, had a disconnect but continued to move and even cast spells afterward. The user also shows this with a video on YouTube. He further edited the post to add that they also tested it with Alt + F4 and the character continued to attack.
Looking at the comments under the thread, it seems that this has also happened to other players. The user shlomo_baggins (Reddit) mentions that this also happened to his brother. His client crashed, but after 30 seconds, his warrior supposedly went back to the boss.
Is this a bug or a new feature? So far, Blizzard has not publicly commented on this, and it is unclear if this has happened to more players. In this case, one cannot completely prove that this event really occurred, despite the video.
Some players (for example, in the Blizzard forum) speculate that this could also be a type of AFK protection so that a dungeon run is not immediately ruined when someone has a crash or disconnect. There have also been follower dungeons that can be run with NPCs for some time. So it could be that they are testing a similar system for disconnects.
What’s strange is that there was no announcement or entry in the patch notes regarding this. Ultimately, one must probably wait until Blizzard comments on the matter themselves.
What do you think about this topic? Has it ever happened to you, and would you find such AFK protection good? Feel free to write it to us in the comments. Recently, Xbox even praised Blizzard, as the studio seems to be performing well: Blizzard is the best that Xbox still has – There is praise from the boss
