Activision has shared the first details about the DMZ mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 – and gamers who play like rats are getting a special role.
What kind of mode is this? DMZ is the extraction shooter from Call of Duty, which was first released in 2022 with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. At that time, the mode was still in beta and therefore not yet perfectly mature. With Modern Warfare 4, the mode is now returning.
This time, you will be on the map “Hajin,” which was created specifically for the mode and features a dynamic weather system. The map is set to span across three countries: South Korea, North Korea, and Russia.
The events of the mode are set to take place after a specific incident in the single-player campaign. You are an unregistered CIA agent tasked with securing military technology that must not fall into enemy hands.
DMZ turns COD players into bounty hunters
This is what makes the mode special now: In Modern Warfare 4, the DMZ mode is supposed to offer a refined gaming experience, and so the developers are introducing a variety of different innovations. Highlights include:
- A sophisticated progression system with various skill trees and perks
- A bounty system
- Players who frequently attack and kill other players receive a bounty – self-defense should not incur a bounty
- Leaderboards that celebrate both the highest bounties and the best bounty hunters of the week
- Drag & Revive – You can drag downed teammates to cover
- You can play multiple characters and skill them differently
- for example, one for PvP, one for PvE, one specifically as a bounty hunter
- The ability to save the character played and its progress after death by paying a rescue team
- A star level like in GTA that increases the strength of NPCs the louder and more ruthlessly you take out AI enemies
With the leaderboards and the bounty system, Call of Duty brings something that many players have been wishing for from ARC Raiders for months. They have even created their own bounty system and are hunting players who stand out as so-called “rats.”
On a corresponding website, for example, there is the category “Voice-Chat-Snake,” where players are marked who pretended to be friendly in voice chat and then betrayed other Raiders. Here too, there are leaderboards for the highest bounties and the best bounty hunters – but not officially in the game, rather on a fan-created website (via Speranza Bountys).
