MeinMMO editor Sophia Weiß wants to look pretty while gaming and generate really high DPS. However, one of her favorite accessories makes playing MMORPGs quite difficult. Luckily, she has a very special gaming mouse to help her.
In my daily life, I like to dress up: doing my hair, applying makeup including eyeshadow, lipstick, and so on. Earrings, necklaces, and occasionally a bracelet. Of course, the clothes have to be on point as well. At least for the office or meeting friends.
However, when gaming, almost everything gets in the way: bracelets can be uncomfortable under the palm. Over-ear headphones on made-up or dirty skin tend to cause acne for me. Consequently, I usually sit in the comfiest loungewear and freshly cleansed in front of the PC.
However, there is one accessory I do not want to give up, which particularly makes gaming in the home office quite difficult: long fingernails. And finding a solution was not that easy.
During this week, you can expect exciting articles every day about MMORPGs. Featuring: nostalgic retrospectives, thrilling analyses from renowned industry veterans, previews of upcoming online role-playing games, and entertaining streams.
Here’s the program for the big MMORPG theme week 2026 by MeinMMO
In the next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, there will be new raids, and I will master them with my solution:
Those who want to look good deal little damage
My natural fingernails cannot withstand much. Due to my varied hobbies, in which I do a lot with my hands, they are additionally stressed. Whether it’s my resin work, gym, or LARP. My solution for still having beautiful nails is press-on nails.
These are basically fingernails with designs that you apply to your natural nail using a special double-sided adhesive pad. I am very happy with the nails from Glamermaid, which I have been ordering about once or twice a year for the past four years. To this day, I have only discarded one of about 25 sets due to wear.
Designs look particularly good on medium to long nails. Short nails don’t pose any problems at all. But with medium or long nails, I become imprecise when triggering abilities via keybindings.

This is especially annoying in MMORPGs:
My rotation in Final Fantasy XIV for my Dragoon is on my keys 1 to 5 and then combined with CTRL plus optionally the keys 1 to 5. Everything above that, I click directly in the game with the mouse pointer.
However, once I’ve applied medium or long nails, it gets problematic: I can still reach the keys with my fingertip, but in critical situations, my nail simply clicks one of the F-keys parallel. Or the nail gets stuck.
Typing in the work routine is no problem: A normal keyboard with traditional keys is easy to use because I tap with the tip of my nails.
But in the gaming context? I cannot afford to mess up my rotation in the middle of a raid because I hit the wrong key. Or that an ability simply doesn’t trigger. I need my damage! The optimal rotation! A wrongly triggered ability wrecks my numbers!
My solution? A dedicated MMO mouse.
Disoriented on the numpad, but finally high damage
I own a rather worn-out Razer Naga V2 Pro with interchangeable side panels. It’s worn out because I accidentally spilled resin on it while crafting. Or due to my occasionally isopropanol-soaked fingers, the numbers and colors have come off the side.
But: The mouse comes with three different side panels that I can simply swap out. So, when I have long nails again, I have now reached the point where I attach the panel with the 9 different numbers.
With my nail-armed thumb, I can easily press the numbers on the side of my mouse and trigger them correctly. I generally still can easily reach the CTRL key for combos on the second bar despite having long nails.
The adjustment from pure keyboard gaming was already weird. However, I generally control my character in my standard MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV with the mouse anyway and have to click on things. I always have one hand on the mouse anyway. So, my thumb can also do something useful and click on the abilities.

Finding the right key is still a bit complicated. They are printed with the numbers, but I don’t want to always have to look down when I select something. But they all have slightly different shapes, and with enough practice, I’ll surely learn where each number is located. But I just miss a small bump, like the one on the 5 in my numpad, or a guiding line like on the F and J keys.
So far, the key pressing with the MMO mouse works excellently, and I can only complain about my own initial difficulties. And maybe about the isopropanol-soluble lacquer on the keys. But I am to blame for that – unless you explain to me in the comments that you all touch your mice with isopropanol hands and that this is a normal use case.
But, to make a long story short: With my sleek MMO mouse, I can also wear super long nails and still click the right abilities. Consequently, my damage output increases. What more could I want?
Thus, my recommendation goes out to my Naga. It’s what I have at home and works perfectly for me. However, I do not use the wireless function and will probably rely on a wired one in the future. The Naga apparently operates on the same frequency as my wireless headset. An accident.
MeinMMO editorial colleague Benedikt Schlotmann took a look at the Razer Naga V2 Pro in his review and identified at least three problems. By the way, he also looked at the Scimitar Elite Wireless in detail. I have only gamed with the Razer Naga so far, but I would also let Benedikt’s assessment of potentially purchasing a new mouse guide me in the future. However, I also want to cast my net a little wider. For anyone who feels similarly, I also have his larger test with a total of 5 MMO mice here.
