He writes that he had planned the story from the beginning. He wanted to tell a story with a drastic plot twist. The victim was supposed to become a mass murderer.
A significant factor was also my own immaturity and stupidity at that time when I was in my early twenties. This aspect became the core of Eren’s character and led to the point where he does not stand as someone forced into misconduct by circumstances but rather as someone who wished to cause harm.
However, more and more readers developed sympathy for Eren. Isayama also found himself feeling a certain closeness to Eren without fully committing to portraying him as a despicable character.
Ultimately, he feels that a certain degree of insincerity remains in the conclusion of the story.
