Pain is the leader of Akatsuki, a criminal organization in Naruto. He aims to bring peace to the world. The trigger for this was traumatic experiences from his childhood. His parents died in the war, and his best friend, Yahiko, was lured into a trap when he only wanted to bring peace between the three great nations.
No wonder Pain wants to end the eternal war. However, his methods are extremely brutal: He wants to collect all 9 Bijuu and merge them into an ultimate weapon to pressure the world not to fight anymore. To do this, he must kill the Jinchuuriki, the human vessels of the Bijuu, to tear their demons from them.
Even Naruto is to be stripped of his Kyuubi. However, in the end, he can convince Pain that he has taken the wrong path. He sacrifices his life to undo his actions.
