In his first appearance, Vegeta was a ruthless villain. He didn’t care at all about the lives of humans or other beings. His primary goal was to achieve immortality, which he sought to accomplish with the help of the Dragon Balls.
To do so, he wanted to become strong enough to overthrow the tyrant Frieza. This villain had destroyed Vegeta’s home planet. The goal was to become the undisputed ruler of the universe.
For this, Vegeta would stop at nothing. He even murdered his own partner Nappa or slaughtered entire villages on Namek. However, there were several moments through which he transformed from a villain into a sympathetic hero.

What happened? Vegeta finally faces the tyrant Frieza. But despite all his training, the Prince of the Saiyans is completely hopeless. When Son-Goku arrives on the battlefield, Vegeta is already dying.
Vegeta starts crying uncontrollably. He tells Goku the truth about his cruel past and how he was exploited as a soldier by Frieza. In his last breaths, he begs Goku to kill Frieza on behalf of the murdered Saiyans.
Why is this moment so important? This is the first moment in the entire anime where Vegeta shows true despair and vulnerability.
It becomes clear how much the Saiyan suffered under Frieza’s rule and that his cruelty was actually just a result of years of abuse and oppression by the villain.
