Okay, Solo Leveling is not known for its deep story or emotional sequences. The series is primarily the fulfillment of a power fantasy with plenty of action, impressive animations, and an amazing soundtrack.
A good, solid action series that has managed to captivate the mainstream audience.
The extent of this excitement was evident after the release of Episode 6, Season 2, titled “Don’t Look Down on My Guys.” When the episode was streamed on Crunchyroll, the influx was so great that the service completely shut down and was not accessible for a while or only accessible with errors.
The episode marks the moment when Sung Jinwoo is trapped with a group of hunters in a world of a red portal. Such a world can only be escaped when the boss is defeated – a boss that is usually much stronger than the enemies encountered otherwise.
Jinwoo’s group is nearly annihilated by the orc Kargalgan. With his seemingly endless army and powerful spells, the hunters are no threat to him at all.
At least he thinks so. For Sung Jinwoo unleashes his full power for the first time since the end of the first season and summons the army of his shadow soldiers, who tear through the orcs in exciting sequences.
The climax is the duel between Kargalgan and Jinwoo, who ultimately manages to defeat the shaman. But it doesn’t end there – Jinwoo also resurrects the leader and many of his orcs as new, loyal servants of his shadow army.
The entire episode was an action spectacle filled with tension and once again the fulfillment of the power fantasy that Jinwoo embodies as the absolute over-hero.
