On Steam, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is currently enjoying great success, having been released 11 years ago. Even the developer can hardly believe his success.
What kind of game is this? The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is a roguelite dungeon crawler that is a heavily expanded remake of the original Flash classic. You control the crying boy Isaac, who flees to the basement from his fanatical mother.
Although the setting with its dark themes, grotesque monsters, and often horrific bodily fluids seems absolutely disturbing, the action game continues to captivate a massive community to this day.
The pure gameplay depth and immense replayability completely overshadow the disgusting visuals. Each run is absolutely unique due to randomly generated rooms and hundreds of crazy, combinable items. This makes it easy to forget the grim design and lose yourself in the gameplay loop.

Hype thanks to Summer Sale
Where does the hype for the game come from? The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has just reached an all-time player record of 137,066 concurrent players on Steam (Source: SteamDB). That is almost double what it was at release in 2014.
The reason for this is the current Steam Summer Sale. You can purchase the title for just €1.49, which requires little thought given that it has a total of 97% positive reviews. For this price, you get many contents and potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay thanks to the roguelite mechanics.
How does the developer react to the new hype? Developer Edmund McMillen is incredibly happy and can hardly believe his eyes. He wrote in disbelief on X.com:
The Binding of Isaac officially overshadowed Mewgenics this morning with 123,429 active players! (Take that!)
Interestingly, “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” has even surpassed the developer’s latest game. His current title “Mewgenics” only reached a peak of 115,428 concurrent players according to SteamDB five months ago.
Are you fans of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth? Or can you not relate to the experience? Feel free to write it in the comments. The new game by Edmund McMillen is also a real hit: New strategy game on Steam draws you in with its own cat army, starting with 96% positive reviews on Steam
