Many actors are associated with a very specific role by the audience. In some cases, however, someone else was supposed to play it. Such is the case with Han Solo in Star Wars.
Al Pacino was one of the most talented and well-known actors of his generation in the 1970s. He starred in classics such as The Godfather, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon, and seemed unstoppable. Until the script for Star Wars reached him.
George Lucas offered him the role of the smuggler Han Solo. However, as Pacino revealed in a talk, he did not understand the script (via variety.com). Therefore, even the high fee offered could not convince him. He declined, and instead, Harrison Ford got the role.
Ford gave the character his iconic coolness that fans still love today. Would Al Pacino, who is primarily known for serious, profound characters, have fit the role at all? In any case, Han Solo would have been a very different character with him.
