Some actors are associated with a very specific role in the eyes of the audience. In some cases, however, someone else was supposed to fill that role. The same goes for La La Land.
La La Land caused quite a stir in 2016, the year of its release. Not only was it a traditional musical, but the film also cleaned up at the Oscars and won the hearts of many viewers.
Originally, Harry Potter star Emma Watson was considered for the lead role of Mia. However, there were scheduling conflicts: the actress had received the offer to play Belle in Beauty and the Beast. The live-action remake by Disney required her to undergo intense training in singing, dancing, and horseback riding, which ultimately was the reason she decided to go with that role.
La La Land had to find a new leading actress. In the end, it was namesake Emma Stone, who received the Oscar for her portrayal. The award eluded Emma Watson, who, aside from a fee of around 3 million US dollars, also had a percentage in the success of Beauty and the Beast.
