Some actors are associated with a very specific role by the audience. In some cases, however, someone else was supposed to take that role. This is also true for Star Wars.
Jodie Foster had already looked back on a respectable career in 1977, although she was only 14 years old. The young actress had made classics like Taxi Driver when she was offered the role of Princess Leia in the first Star Wars.
In a conversation with Jimmy Fallon on YouTube, she revealed years later that they wanted a younger Leia, which is why they offered her the role. Unfortunately, there were scheduling and contractual conflicts with a Disney film – probably Freaky Friday.
As a result, Foster had to decline George Lucas and his crew. The supposed niche film Star Wars became a mass phenomenon upon release, which Lucas had not even foreseen. The role of Leia famously went to Carrie Fisher, who became world-famous and played her most iconic character.
