Many audience members associate certain actors with a very specific role. In some cases, however, someone else was supposed to play that role. This was also the case in Iron Man 2.
Emily Blunt has appeared in numerous Hollywood films, but a major role eluded her. In Iron Man 2, she was supposed to appear as Black Widow. Unfortunately, she was already committed and had to decline Marvel with a heavy heart.
Her contract with 20th Century Fox and the shooting of the film Gulliver’s Travels prevented her participation in the major sequel to Iron Man. In the podcast Happy Sad Confused, Blunt admitted that she actually didn’t want to shoot Gulliver’s Travels.
The forced decision had huge consequences: instead of Emily Blunt, Scarlett Johansson was cast as Black Widow. She not only played the role in Iron Man 2, but also in the following MCU films in which the character appeared.
