The great stars in House of the Dragon are the graceful dragons. Although they are among the most powerful creatures in Westeros, there are notably more impressive dragons in other movies, series, animes, and games that could wipe the floor with them.
How was this list created? We looked at dragons from other fictional works based on their strength, power, and size, and compared them with the dragons from Westeros. This is not a ranking of individual places, but rather a collection of powerful dragons.

Ancalagon – The largest dragon from Middle-earth
- Originates from the universe of Middle-earth by author J.R.R. Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion).
Long before the events of The Lord of the Rings, the greatest problem in Middle-earth was the villain Morgoth. Between the 545th and 587th year of the First Age, the War of Wrath raged, in which men and elves, along with the Valar and Maiar, faced the forces of evil.
As Morgoth’s situation worsened, he unleashed his secret weapon: Ancalagon, the mightiest dragon that ever existed. Together with other dragons, he was able to push back the armies of the Valar. However, the dragons were ultimately defeated thanks to the great eagles.
Ancalagon could likely defeat the dragons in Westeros only due to his strength and size. Although Tolkien never mentions his measurements, it is described that he fell upon Thangorodrim, a group of volcanoes, upon his defeat, which was thereafter destroyed. This at least suggests that Ancalagon was indeed gigantic (source: Tolkien Gateway).
