Those who struggle through the gloomy dark fantasy world of Dark Souls (or torment themselves) eventually end up in the archives and must face the dragon Seath in the Crystal Cave. This is a significant event, as most dragons were already eradicated long ago.
Seath is to blame for that, having betrayed his people. He helped Gwyn in the fight against the dragons and was appointed as Lord for it. He was obsessed with immortality, as he was born without scales, which grant exactly that to dragons. In his archives, Seath researched immortality and thanks to a crystal, he achieved it. However, in his obsession, he went mad and became almost a mad scientist.
Unlike the dragons in Westeros, Seath wields powerful magic and also uses crystals in battle. If you fail to destroy his crystal, he is practically invincible. But even without the abilities, he was able to almost completely eradicate the Great Dragons with the other Lords, which is a remarkable feat (Source: Dark Souls Wiki).
