The next remix event of World of Warcraft is already in the making. We will probably have to wait a while for another event.
Two of the most successful game modes in the recent past of World of Warcraft were probably the two “Remix” events related to Mists of Pandaria and Legion. Countless players leveled their characters, earned rewards, and experienced the old story once again in turbo mode with escalating character strength.
The success led Blizzard to want to bring more remix events. But another very popular event is also set to return – but only rarely.
Where do the statements come from? In a “Question and Answer” segment from the “Portal Room” Discord server, the game director of WoW, Ion Hazzikostas, answered some questions from the community. This included discussions about the remix events and “Collector’s Bounty”.
In the interview, Hazzikostas also explained that players want so much content so quickly.
Remix returns – Rare loot as well, but indeed seldom
What are these events? Remix refers to a temporary revival of existing expansions. They receive a handful of new quests, new progression systems, and bronze as currency. This can be earned everywhere and spent on countless cosmetic rewards, while the character can become nearly infinitely powerful.
The “Collector’s Bounty” event, on the other hand, is an event where the drop rate for rewards is drastically increased. Rare transmogs or mounts have a significantly increased chance to be obtained from the respective content.
What did Hazzikostas say? Regarding the remix events, Hazzikostas stated that they definitely want to bring more of those. They would be a great opportunity to relive old expansions while providing a new gaming experience that differs from simply questing through the old areas in retail.
However, they want to be more sparse with the “Collector’s Bounty”. The event will definitely return, but it won’t be frequent. The developers are concerned that otherwise it would feel as if farming transmogs or other rewards outside the event wouldn’t serve any purpose. It should be an occasional, temporary bonus, but not so frequent that players would decide not to try their luck outside the event anymore.
Which remix could come? Hazzikostas had nothing to say about that. However, a remix for Battle for Azeroth or Shadowlands would be likely. Even though both expansions were not the most popular, they have a lot of endgame content that can be utilized for the remix formula and also have some of the most sought-after cosmetics. These expansions in turbo mode with plenty of cosmetic rewards in sight could become a huge success.
Cortyn says: For me, remix and also Collector’s Bounty were among the most interesting innovations in WoW in recent years. Even though I would wish for a more frequent return of the events, I can understand that it would devalue the rest of WoW if it occurred too often. Therefore, I will probably have to be patient and first try to keep up with the current content. There are now so many, that some are already talking about WoW burnout.
