Is World of Warcraft: The War Within ready for release? The latest patch raises doubts about that.
That an update the size of the pre-patch 11.0 causes some issues in an old and extensive game like World of Warcraft is quite normal. Numerous hotfixes have already been released to address the most pressing problems. However, much still does not work correctly and needs further revision.
This raises the question for some: Is The War Within really ready for release?
What is the problem with patch 11.0? Although the patch 11.0 must be credited for changing numerous fundamental aspects of WoW, there are still a plethora of bugs and issues that were present at launch. Some of them include:
- The Warbands Bank, one of the main features, had to be deactivated for everyone right away – and it still is today.
- The end bosses of all current raids were bugged on “mythic” and virtually unbeatable.
- The scaling of WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria was broken, allowing heroes between 50 and 70 to fight normal enemies that had health points like bosses.
- The cross-realm trading had to be deactivated.
- Many abilities and talents are still not functioning correctly.
This is just a selection of the problems that currently exist or have existed.
Concern about the release of The War Within
The fact that there are so many problems and that the beta server of The War Within is still struggling with some difficulties causes concern among many fans. Time and again, one hears either in the WoW subreddit, on X, or in the official forum that the release might need to be pushed back by a month.
Who is worried about the release? Besides numerous “ordinary” community members who criticize the state of the beta and have concerns, there are also a few more well-known voices, like the guide writer Neryssa from Wowhead, who writes on X:
I know that at this point it’s just wishful thinking, but looking at the state of the pre-patch versus the release and how things are going in beta right now…
… for the mental health of the entire development team, I truly hope that a postponement of the launch date is considered.
The concern is shared on X and in the WoW subreddit. Some write:
- “As someone who plays the beta, I was very surprised that they announced August as the release date. The date seems very aggressively chosen.” – SVALTACT
- “It’s obviously not ready for release, but they’ll just push through it.” – N-Zoth
However, there are also voices that are optimistic about the release, like Attycuss27, who recalls:
The Burning Crusade had devastating bugs at launch, Wrath of the Lich King was mostly okay, Cataclysm had issues, Mists of Pandaria was okay, Warlords of Draenor was an absolute disaster, Legion had scenario issues that prevented acquiring artifact weapons, in Battle for Azeroth some couldn’t leave the starting event, Shadowlands wrecked the Maw, and in Dragonflight many couldn’t use the portal.
The point is: With every expansion, people say it isn’t finished. Every expansion has a few things that don’t work at launch.
Will the release be postponed? At this point, that seems highly unlikely. The roadmap appears to be set in stone. On one hand, the schedule would have to be adjusted on short notice with the pre-event, and on the other hand, it would disappoint many fans who may have already taken vacation for the release. Not to mention that World of Warcraft will soon celebrate its 20th anniversary, for which patch 11.0.5 will likely be necessary, which must also be released by then.
One can only hope that the developers will manage to smooth out the major issues of the pre-patch and the difficulties of the beta in the last four weeks. Because while many can overlook issues during early access, it should run smoothly by the release on August 27. At least smoother than it currently is in the pre-patch 11.0.
