In World of Warcraft a feature is currently causing frustration. The new loot hunts are getting extremely annoying very quickly.
The second season of World of Warcraft Midnight has begun and with it come new loot hunts. The feature centered around Astalor, the Blood Elf with the somewhat too erotic voice, caused some frustration during the first season. However, after some patch improvements, the frustration subsided.
Now the second season has started with new effects and the players’ conclusion so far: It has become even more annoying. Hardly possible, one would think.
Traps kill in seconds, causing frustration
What is the problem with the new hunts? The new season also brings some fresh affixes that appear especially during the tougher hunts. Although Astalor no longer whispers in your ear that you should “kill for him,” instead, you are attacked by the servants of Ula’tek. These can be small duo-servants that attack at inconvenient moments, but also falling traps.
These traps are particularly deadly because they slow down your character by a hefty 80% and also deal extreme poison damage – up to 300,000 damage per second. Especially on green areas – like grass – these traps are hardly visible, even less so when multiple characters use abilities simultaneously.
The community is angry: Many express their frustration about the feature in the WoW subreddit. They believe that there must be at least one developer at Blizzard who creates game content just to provoke the greatest possible outrage among players. The traps also have the problem that the location of their impact is sometimes not seen beforehand, making it impossible to avoid until it’s too late. Classes without quick movement – such as the Priest, for whom a boss had to be changed specifically – fall victim to the traps in no time.
Some voices from the community:
- “Yeah, the first [trap] lands right on me and then I get hit by the next 1-2 because I can barely move. It feels awful to deal with.” – carbonara3
- “I had one spawn on me while I was doing the ‘Valeera goes into Ula’tek’s basement’ quest, triggering an ambush. I was teleported to Valeera in Silvermoon when I left the ‘vehicle’ (Valeera) to deal with the ambush. But the traps appeared on me during the ambush and they dealt damage while I was being teleported. So I died in the middle of Silvermoon because of the debuff.
I logged out. I’m already annoyed – more than would be justified for this game – and this experience made it extremely unfun. I’ll try again tomorrow.” – sunshineparadox_ - “‘The loot hunt developer must be a real jerk.’
I thought that during the first season of the Nightmare loot hunts.
And now I’m saying it again. They really push for it to be no fun at all.” – Sillygoose_Milfbane
Cortyn says: I understand all the frustration and had to take a very deep breath during my first loot hunt. The traps are quite a nuisance, but with movement abilities, one can still evade them quite well. However, it becomes outright unfair in moments when the traps appear simultaneously with an ambush. Because then your character is stunned for 1.5 seconds, totaling at least 2 or 3 hits, which means guaranteed death for all non-tanks.
There should definitely be some fine-tuning here so that at least the stuns cannot occur at the same time as the traps. Because that is simply one thing: unfair.
But until that is fixed, I’ll be struggling with the new Deep Nemesis – because there are only a few days left if you want a very special title.
