Today you can log in to WoW Forever and secure names. Hurry up, as the best ones go quickly.
Update, 6:14 PM: Blizzard is experiencing problems with the servers and says that name reservation will be postponed until the issues are resolved. No specific time was given.
Original report: It will take over a week for WoW Forever to launch, but the name reservation begins today. If you want to secure your desired name, you should hurry up, as the demand is expected to be huge.
When does the name reservation start? Character creation and thus name reservation starts exactly at 6:00 PM. From then on, you can start WoW Forever, create your characters, and reserve up to 3 names.
What do you need to reserve a name? To be able to reserve names, two conditions must be met:
- You must have purchased one of the 3 pre-order packages of Forever.
- You must have already downloaded and installed WoW Forever, as you need to start it.
How should a name be composed? Names in WoW Forever consist of a first and last name, and both fields must be filled in. Both the first and last name must consist of 2 to 12 characters.
Also, note that you must comply with Blizzard’s naming rules. Profanity, even in seemingly “funny”, slightly altered spellings will be sanctioned and may lead to various penalties up to account closure. Blizzard has already taken a hard line on this in the beta.
First come, first served for your desired name
Why should you be quick? In WoW Forever, all characters are on a “Mega-Server”. This means that – unlike in other WoW versions – a name must be unique not just on one realm, but across the entire server system. This limits the choice of names, even though the options have naturally increased with first and last names.
How long can names be reserved? Name reservations are possible until November 3rd. If you want to have your desired name, you should act as quickly as possible to secure it – especially if it is a “common” combination. The more unusual your combination of first and last names is, the less likely it is that someone will snatch it from you.
Will you secure names in World of Warcraft Forever today? Or are you just hoping that no one will take the name “Torben Turbo” for your Tauren with Plainswalking until you can start on November 5th with everyone else?
