WoW: Finally Blizzard tells the housing players what they want to hear

Patch 12.1 of World of Warcraft brings major changes to Housing. But it is exactly what the community wants.

Half a year has passed since the release of Housing in World of Warcraft. Since then, there have been many interviews discussing the developers’ plans and intentions, but not much has really happened. Sure, there have been small improvements: houses can fly, the decoration limit for the exterior has been slightly increased, and recently outdoor light sources are also possible.

However, there was a long absence of major new features. Now we know what’s coming in Patch 12.1 Curse of Ula’tek – and Housing fans should have a celebration.

Save, import, and export houses

The biggest hindrance to Housing in World of Warcraft currently is that most of them are “finished”. The house is nicely furnished, and the decoration limit has been fully utilized. However, there’s some gritting of teeth because currently houses are limited to 2 per account. Those who want to build a house for each character cannot do so.

But that is going to change. Because in Patch 12.1 you will have 50 save slots. You can save “blueprints” there. Blueprints include the setup of the interior area, just the exterior area, or an individual room. This way, you can “save” your rooms and load them again if needed.

Do you want to build a new living room? No problem! Save your current living room, completely clear it with one click, and start fresh. The new attempt didn’t work out? Then just load the old room again.

With the new blueprints, you can import rooms – and see immediately what you are missing.

If you wish, you can also export your own house and make the blueprint available to other players so they can directly copy and adopt the house – or individual rooms. However, this has to be intentionally activated. A simple “theft” is not possible.

What if you don’t have all the items? If you want to import a room or an entire house, World of Warcraft lists all the items you need for it. If individual objects are missing, it’s not a problem – the design can still be imported, but then some parts will be missing.

Pets finally in the house

The second, slightly smaller feature concerns all fans who like to collect pets in World of Warcraft. Because in Patch 12.1 you can buy “pet beds” and assign each bed to one of your battle pets. Afterwards, you will constantly have your pets in your apartment! You can choose whether they should simply stay on their bed or wander around the apartment. New technology should enable the pets to recognize and understand the design of your house so that they can navigate correctly through your house.

Finally pets in your own house. It was about time!

And yes: You can have multiple pets in the house at the same time. If you’ve always wanted to fulfill the dream of being a crazy cat lady (or a crazy cat lord), you can do that with Patch 12.1.

What do you think of these new features? Exactly what Housing has always needed? Or is more to come? If so, what?

More levels, more quests

Apart from these two major features, there are also a number of smaller changes. You can finally reach new Housing levels. There will be three new levels (up to Housing Level 12), which unlock more slots for rooms, decorations, and large outdoor buildings.

The entrance area of your house can now be freely moved to any level of the house. This way, you can build basements in the future.

There are 4 new quests with new tasks and a lot of fresh rewards:

  • Amani-Imitations (with the troll Griftah)
  • Centaur from Ohn’ahia
  • Candle culture (gnomes)
  • Tortollans

Last but not least, the dyeing system is being revamped. In the future, you will only need 9 different dye items instead of the around 50 you used to need. However, the number of colors will not decrease, but will rather increase.

Cortyn says: Without exaggerating, I believe that this patch finally makes Housing “complete” – just as it should have been at release in the best case. The ability to save entire rooms and buildings is a major hurdle that has kept many Housing fans from exploring more. Because most have already set up one or even two large, stylish houses and would like to experiment more – but that is not possible as long as the only option is to completely delete the existing one.

Even though there will surely still be small improvements afterward, I believe that Patch 12.1 finally elevates Housing to the level it always wanted to reach. Everything that can come afterward is “Nice to Have” – but no longer really necessary to keep Housing as a game content that will excite a specific part of the community for years and decades to come. Because some have already questioned whether anyone still plays Housing.
