In the world of Warhammer 40,000 there are dozens of absurd weapons with greater destructive power than we could ever imagine. But which of them are the truly strongest? MeinMMO attempts to explore this question.
If there is only war in a world, the selection of war tools is correspondingly large, and no universe demonstrates this as impressively as Warhammer. Various huge factions fight for dominance in the galaxy or for mere survival, using all their might.
However, a small note directly upfront: Comparing the “strongest” weapons in Warhammer 40,000 is almost impossible and more or less irrelevant. If multiple weapons can annihilate a planet or entire systems, which one is stronger?
Additionally, the slowly awakening Necrons have historically the strongest weapons by far. To ensure this list is not just a compilation of Necron technology, we considered various criteria in our evaluation to determine the strongest portable, planetary, or galactic weapons.
In our attempt to list the strongest of these weapons, we compared the technologies of all peoples and had many of the results evaluated by AI. Of course, we checked the results and supplemented them with our own expertise. Enjoy reading!
Place 5: The Necron weapon that no armor can withstand
Of the weapons that “normal” soldiers can carry, the laser rifle is by far the most widespread and significantly stronger than its reputation. However, it is far from being the strongest “hand” firearm.
That falls to the Necrons. Their Gauss rifles are the standard armament of most of their warriors and have a special property: They dissolve matter layer by layer, and that in split seconds.
A shot does not penetrate the target; it slowly disintegrates it on a molecular level. Not even the thickest armors of the Space Marines are prepared for this. Gauss rifles can penetrate any armor – or rather: vaporize it.
Thanks to the Mechanicus, there are now initial attempts to make this Xenos technology available to the Imperium, with partial success, but not with the same efficiency as the weapons of the Necrons. Gauss weapons come in various forms, such as cannons, scalpels, or vehicle- and platform-mounted weapons.
