Place 4: A cathedral on chains that burns heretics
The best expression of the megalomania and fanaticism of the Imperium is the invasion cathedrals of the Adepta Sororitas. This order of women fanatically devoted to the Emperor shows no mercy when it comes to exterminating heretics and Xenos.
Their zealous fervor reaches a peak when they attack a world. They literally drop a cathedral onto the planet, equipped with all manner of weapon systems and loudspeakers disseminating the word of the Emperor.
Invasion or storm cathedrals are quasi-mobile strongholds that can move (extremely slowly) with chains. They serve not only as a refuge but especially as a method of attack and psychological warfare. These cathedrals come in various sizes and designs, such as a “normal” ground “vehicle” or in the form of a void ship with corresponding armament:
- Macro cannons and lance batteries
- Magma warheads and other weapons for planetary bombardment
- Shield generators and more
Each cathedral brings hundreds of Sororitas with it, who then charge into battle armed with flamethrowers and divine assistance. Sounds exaggerated? Perhaps. But this is why the Sororitas are considered by some fans to be the very faction that embodies the spirit of Warhammer 40,000 better than any other.
