Place 1: The strongest weapon in the galaxy is a map
To bring the story full circle, the strongest weapon in Warhammer 40,000 is, of course, once again in the hands of the sleeping Necrons. Over their seemingly endless reign and the wars with their own gods – and afterwards – they have created incomprehensible technologies.
One of these is the Celestial Orrery, which appears from the outside to be a map of the entire known universe. Every star in the galaxy is marked here, a holographic representation of the Milky Way.
The catch: If the map is altered, it has immediate effects on reality. If one erases a star in the Orrery, it perishes in a supernova and takes its surrounding system with it.
As if that weren’t enough, such an intervention in reality can trigger a chain reaction that, in the worst case, annihilates the entire galaxy in one fell swoop. Consequently, the Necrons guard this weapon well and manipulate it very little over millennia with the aim of maintaining some order – if they even influence things at all. After all, they do not wish to destroy the universe, but to rule over it.
