Warframe announces basically Warframe 2.0: The biggest update in the game’s history promises even new star map

Warframe Tau Albrecht Entrati

The latest update of Warframe introduces a new star system with a cyberpunk detective story and paves the way for Warframe 2.0

What is this update about? At TennoCon 2026, Digital Extremes announced what is likely the largest update in Warframe’s history, which will continue the story of the sci-fi MMO in 2026 and pave the way for Warframe 2.9.

The update introduces the new star system Tau, which has been uncharted territory for players for about a decade. It is the home system of the Sentients, one of the main antagonist factions in the game.
Tau will feature its own star map, launching with two explorable regions upon the release of the update. Because the star map serves as a central navigation system between planets and missions, a second star map will allow for a host of new regions to be released.

Additionally, as usual, the update brings a new Warframe that you will embody during the new story chapter.

Noir Detective in a Cyberpunk City

What is the update about? In the Tau system, you will enter the city “Fornax”, designed in a cyberpunk style, where Albrecht Entrati is awaiting the return of the Tenno.

In Fornax, you will have to stop the ruthless crime boss “Hunra” in a kind of detective story, who rules the city with an addictive substance called “Bloom” and a network of smugglers and enforcers. You will take on the role of the new Warframe “Brysko”, who infiltrates the criminal underworld together with Entrati.

The story is inspired by the noir genre (films like Blade Runner, Memento, Sin City), which is also reflected in the character traits of the new Warframe: He is described as a typical cynical anti-hero of the noir, revealing an honorable ethos in inner monologues, yet he does not hesitate to use tougher means when the situation demands it.

Brysko’s characteristic weapons reflect the archetype of the noir anti-hero: He wields a brass knuckle, explosive playing cards, and a revolver.
