The next Total War takes place in the grim future of Warhammer 40,000. Now the developers have presented new information in a deep dive, one of perhaps the most important points fell, however, in passing: Armageddon and its heroes play an important role.
Armageddon is a war-torn world of the Imperium and the setting of the 11th Edition of Warhammer 40,000. True to its name, Armageddon has been nearly destroyed multiple times and has been a constant battlefield for decades, especially between Blood Angels and Orks.
In line with this, Armageddon is also said to play a major role in the new Total War: Warhammer 40,000. In a new deep dive, the developers even revealed that two legendary heroes will be found in the game:
- Commissar Yarrick is one of the key figures in the civil war that nearly destroyed Armageddon and the reason why the world remains loyal to the Imperium.
- Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, or “the Beast of Armageddon,” is the most well-known WAAAGH! boss of the warlike Orks and has invaded the system multiple times. For the Orks, Armageddon has since become a sort of paradise where battles are constant.
Armageddon is said to be merely the beginning of the whole experience and far from the end, as mentioned in the video. The planet is indeed particularly important for the Imperium, but the entire solar system (and presumably the Milky Way) will serve as a setting.
The developers promise: you need no prior knowledge of the immense world of Warhammer 40,000. It is even better if you do not know everything yet, as they plan story-rich events to introduce you to the setting.
Warhammer 40,000 reshapes Total War, but is said to be ideal for newcomers
Already Total War: Warhammer 3 made the fantasy world easier to understand and is therefore one of the best games for getting into Warhammer. In Warhammer 40,000, Creative Assembly apparently plans something similar, but without more details so far.
With Warhammer 40,000, Total War should also reach entirely new dimensions, as you are not only playing on “one world” but on many different planets. There are also some new features to the gameplay:
- Campaigns and battles are said to proceed differently with various game modes, maps of different sizes, and interplanetary travel.
- The four starting factions come with entirely new gameplay approaches, only one of which roughly corresponds to what veterans already know.
- Planets have various categorizations and biomes for different combinations. For this, a unique creation system has even been developed.
- Cover plays an important role and can even be tactically destroyed to change the battlefield.
For fans of the lore, many names on the planet and of the characters appearing might be more interesting, and it sounds like Creative Assembly is digging deep into the history box. That Yarrick is so popular is not only due to his charisma, but also because he is a commissar, and they already have a reputation: The Imperium in Warhammer 40,000 is not just “lame humans” – Here are its 6 most dangerous organizations
