The developers of GTA 6 want to entice you to the new console generation and are even giving you something for it.
What is this gift? For years, the creators of GTA have profited well from selling their games multiple times to the same players. So one needed GTA 5 on PS3, PS4, and also PS5, and the same for Xbox.
Now the developers have announced that everyone playing GTA 5 on PS4 or Xbox One X|S will also receive a version of the same game for the latest console generation. So they will get GTA 5 for the current console generation as a gift. But there’s a plan behind it.
Here you can see the second trailer for GTA 6:
GTA 6 needs new consoles
What is this plan? GTA 6 is likely the game of the decade in the minds of many gamers. No other title has generated as much anticipation as the new installment in the series. At the same time, the game is being developed only for the latest console generation and will therefore not be available on PS4 and Xbox One X|S.
PC players will also have to wait. For many gamers, this means a new console is needed to enjoy the title alongside others. Rockstar is aware of this, which is why this gift seems not just a kind gesture but also a way to facilitate the transition to the new console and at the same time attract more potential customers for the new installment.
What do the fans say about this? Fans are both surprised by Rockstar’s move, who have not been so generous with their titles in the past. At the same time, fears are growing that this is a step towards ending support for GTA 6 on the now nearly 13-year-old consoles.
Fans are writing on Reddit:
- sh1boleth: “Who is this and what have you done with my triple-dipping Rockstar Games?”
- oilfloatsinwater: “You can tell there’s a recession when you can’t buy another copy of GTA V.”
- johnny-papercut: “This feels like the first step to stop support for the PS4/X1 versions of GTA Online, which is fine. I own the Xbox One version and have never upgraded, so this works out well for me.”
- Aforumguy26: “No, I don’t think they will support GTA 5 Online for much longer since GTA 6 is set to release soon. This is an incentive for the players of the last console generation to upgrade and be ready for GTA 6.”
- Old_Snack: “Well. I never got the Series X version, so it’s cool to see. Though, it feels a bit strange for Rockstar…”
Do you think this gift could already be the first step of the upcoming big marketing campaign, or is Rockstar Games just being generous? Feel free to let us know in the comments. Since GTA 6 is set to release in November, September will become the perfect gaming month: September could be one of the best months in gaming, and it’s all thanks to GTA 6, even though that comes out 2 months later
