This is known about the Warlock: The Warlock is a dark spellcaster who subjugates demons to his will. His power comes directly from Hell, summoned through rituals, alchemy, and dark sorcery. The class is based on the Willpower attribute.
He uses the unholy powers of Hell against itself and acts as the embodiment of infernal vengeance, thus being the dark counterpart to the Paladin. It is essentially a mage class that specializes in forbidden arts.
How does the Warlock play? The Warlock uses the powers of Hell, particularly demons, to defeat and dominate his enemies. For instance, he chains enemies together and sends different demonic companions after them.
So it can be assumed that his main damage types will be fire and shadow (possibly also physical damage).

Warlock in Diablo 4: Abilities and Class Mechanics
What are the abilities of the Warlock? The Warlock is the only class that uses two resources: Wrath and Dominance. While normal skills consume Wrath, summoning and the special abilities of demons cost Dominance. He can also transform into a demon form and increase the damage of demonology skills.
The Warlock can merge with one of four Soul Shards starting at level 30 as part of his class mechanics, thereby defining his playstyle. Additionally, this gives you a demon companion that supports you on the battlefield. You use fragments that influence how the Soul Shards function.
The following Soul Shards and therefore archetypes exist:
- Legions summon tireless cannon fodder to overwhelm their prey.
- Vanguards become monstrous terrors on the front lines.
- Masterminds dominate the battlefield through suppressive shadow arts.
- Ritualists weave corruption through blood-stained rites.
When can I play the Warlock in Diablo 4? He appears as the second new class with the DLC “Lord of Hatred”. While the Paladin was revealed as the first new class at the Game Awards and was immediately playable for pre-order customers, you will have to wait a bit with the Warlock: You can play this dark counterpart at the release of the expansion on April 28, 2026.
