On May 4, 2026, the official sale of the Steam Controller started via Steam. However, Steam encountered problems during the release: players reported on Reddit that the shop was broken and that the controller was not purchasable, even if they were there in the first minute of the release. If the situation weren’t frustrating enough, some resellers (so-called scalpers) are already offering the controllers on eBay for a lot of money, with some prices reported to be 250 US dollars.

The first reviews of the Steam Controller were rather mixed: reviewers criticized especially the mediocre ergonomics of the touchpads and the significant limitations in connectivity options. This means you can only use the controller with Steam and not with other platforms or Windows.
