Rank 1: Guild Wars 3
Developer: ArenaNet | Platform: PC and consoles | Release period: Unclear (Beta 2027) | Model: Buy2Play with in-game shop | Votes in the MeinMMO election: 1,402
Through NCSoft, we had long known that a new Guild Wars is to be developed by ArenaNet, but to hear it from the developers themselves is something special. Especially since they have laid out a clear PR plan for the announcement and continuously released new videos and articles afterwards.
The developers made it clear early on that the new game is to differ significantly from its two predecessors, just as was the case with Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. All three Guild Wars titles are intended to coexist in parallel.
The promised evolution of the MMO could lead us to an MMO-lite version. Guild Wars 3 focuses on the region of Orr, has likely not been in development for too long, and aims to provide content for solo players and small groups. The focus is on an action combat system where the character’s movement momentum plays an important role.
A strength of the predecessors that Guild Wars 3 intends to maintain is the payment model. You buy the game and can then play it forever. Additional money is expected to come in through the in-game shop, mainly through the sale of cosmetic items. There will be no battle pass or any free subscriptions.
I am still slightly skeptical due to the short development time and the realignment, but I am really excited about Guild Wars 3. After all, ArenaNet has already proven twice that they want to successfully publish a really good online role-playing game. And my wife is excited too – for over 2 years now: Guild Wars 3 has been announced and my wife dances with joy in circles
