On social platforms, the developers of ArenaNet (Guild Wars, Guild Wars 2) hint at a major announcement at the Summer Game Fest. That they are working on Guild Wars 3 is an open secret.
What kind of teaser is this? On X, the ArenaNet officials posted a message hinting at a significant announcement with a short teaser clip and a few words, which we can expect at the Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026. They specifically write:
“Get ready – and tune in on June 05, 2026, at the Summer Game Fest. Something big is brewing in the #Games industry. Will you be there?”
What could the studio announce? Let’s briefly look at what ArenaNet is currently known to be working on:
- Guild Wars was able to regain some relevance through the Reforged remaster and is expected to be released for mobile devices later this summer. Since that was announced some time ago and is only relevant for a niche audience, it is unlikely to be a topic at the Summer Game Fest.
- The team behind Guild Wars 2 is certainly already working on the next expansion. Related announcements have often taken place in June (such as with Janthir Wilds) or in July (Visions of Eternity) in the past, but they have never been a significant topic at the main event of the Summer Game Fest.
- Since an investors’ conference held by NCSoft in March 2024, we know that ArenaNet is working on Guild Wars 3. More than two years have passed since then, and the team might finally be ready to officially reveal the third installment of the beloved MMO series. This is currently the most likely option for us, especially considering the expectations of fans that such a teaser inevitably arouses.
“The Only Way” is the latest story chapter of Guild Wars 2:
“This better not be some stupid card game”
How does the community react to the teaser? With a mix of great anticipation and some concerns.
- SharkyNerd writes on X: “As exciting as a GW3 would be … I fear it would decimate the player base of GW2 and make the in-game content even harder to manage.”
- ExplosiveBolts has a request for the devs on X: “This better not be some stupid card game.”
- Hasiobard hopes for X: “I believe it has to be GW3 – to announce it at the game fair is a huge deal, so I would feel like: Is that it? But a new game that is currently in the works and large enough for the game fair.”
- Guillejin sums it up on X: “If it’s not Guild Wars 3, they will disappoint all the people who expect just that, and I hope it’s created in Unreal Engine 6.”

What do we actually know about Guild Wars 3? Aside from NCSoft’s confirmation, unfortunately very little. Over the past two years, ArenaNet has repeatedly sought reinforcement for an undisclosed AAA project that is to be developed in Unreal Engine 5. This included a sandbox designer who should have experience with live-service games, MMORPGs, or early-access titles. You can find everything about this here: ArenaNet seeks reinforcement for “undisclosed project” – What’s up with Guild Wars 3?
