Subnautica 2: Unlocking and Upgrading the Sound Resonator – Here’s How

In Subnautica 2 is one of the most important tools in the game the Sound Resonator, but you first need to unlock it. What it brings you and how you can obtain and unlock it is explained here. 

What can the Sound Resonator do? With the Sound Resonator, you can produce sound and fire it at nearby objects, as the name suggests. Living beings can be briefly stunned, while rock formations and solid mineral deposits can be mined or destroyed.

Especially for mining important materials, the Sound Resonator is indispensable. Many rare resources can only be mined with it, such as the conduit crystals near the alien ruins.

However, the Sound Resonator has a catch; you need to get very close to your targets to produce an effect when firing. There is also an alternative – the Feedback Resonator. This can send its sound waves traveling and easily hit distant targets.

Unlocking the Sound Resonator

How do I unlock the Sound Resonator? To unlock the Sound Resonator, you need to scan a total of 2 scattered specimens. After that, you will receive the blueprint for the device. These devices can often be found scattered around ruins or crash sites in containers or facilities. One of the best locations is the “Old Base.” You can pin this location with a signal marker and swim or drive there – it is located in the northwest of the map.

Once you arrive there, you now need to go into the base and search the various rooms on the floor or tables. In the area, you will find two Sound Resonators and can unlock the blueprint in one go.

Upgrading the Sound Resonator

How can I upgrade the Sound Resonator? The Sound Resonator is the first tier of the device, but there is also the upgrade: the Feedback Resonator. Here, you also need to scan 2 specimens of the type. One can be found near the alien ruins southeast of the research outpost – head in the direction of 110 on the compass.

It is advisable to take a depth module with you when you are using the Seaglide, because you will need to dive very deep. Keep your course and swim about 700 meters in that direction until you discover an alien wreck with an open door. Go inside and scan the first Feedback Resonator.

Now exit the wreck and orient your compass to the north. Continue deeper along the path until you see a white-glowing cave on your right side. Approach it and look on the ground. There should be another specimen of the Resonator there.

Once you have scanned both specimens, you can now also create the upgrade. To do this, you need:

• 1x Sound Resonator
• 2x Conduit Crystal
• 2x Enameled Glass
• 2x Strontium
