As in its predecessor, Subnautica 2 offers several vehicles for you to better explore the underwater world. You can find out which are currently available in our overview.
What is the benefit of vehicles in Subnautica 2? These are meant to support you on your journeys. Especially if you want to quickly explore new areas, vehicles are a must, as they save you time and also provide options for storing your found items while looting, allowing you to safely bring them back to base.
However, since Subnautica 2 has only just launched in Early Access, the current version of the game only has one vehicle with two possible upgrades.
If new vehicles are added through updates, we will expand the list accordingly.

Tadpole
How do I get the vehicle? The Tadpole cannot be built immediately at the vehicle fabricator, as you first need to scan three broken fragments of a former Tadpole, which are located on the seabed near the massive chasm at the Tufa Towers. Note that you will have to dive extremely deep for this, which can end fatally without the right equipment. So make sure you have the necessary upgrades ready before embarking on this adventure.
What can the vehicle do? The Tadpole, in its base version, is a maneuverable diving capsule for one person. Base version because the Tadpole has two upgrades that optimize its chassis. These include:
- The Scout Ray chassis
- The Tadpole Haul chassis
With the Scout, your vehicle gets two wings and additional thrusters. This will make you not only more agile but also faster on your travels.
With the Haul chassis, your Tadpole becomes bulkier and also gets a second seat for another passenger. Additionally, you can pack more storage spaces in the Haul, allowing you to stockpile enough materials there.
So if you want to explore areas, you should take off with the Scout. The Haul is then suited for looting many resource points afterwards.
