GTA 6 can only be pre-ordered for a short time, and yet it seems to be a rare commodity: Although there is no shortage, the game is being sold on eBay as if it were already sold out.
Why is the game already being sold by scalpers on eBay? The true answer to that: Nobody currently understands the situation. But still, it is happening.
As can be seen in a screenshot on the X account of Dexerto, the pre-order version of GTA 6 is being offered at significantly higher prices on eBay. This applies to the standard version, as well as the ultimate edition, which even demands prices of nearly 140 US dollars.
GTA 6 does not have a limited number of copies and can be played via digital download immediately. Why some fans therefore resort to scalper offers on eBay and pay such prices, even though they can buy the same game more cheaply with fewer detours, is a mystery to the community.

What does the community say about this emerging scalping strategy? The community reacts to the situation with incredulous head shaking, as can be seen from the comments on X:
“Paying scalpers money for a digital pre-order that can’t even be sold out has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen,” writes @Dj_Chats22.
But @TheCartelDel also apologizes: “Sorry for saying earlier that a purely digital release would prevent scalping. I didn’t expect how great the stupidity of some people on the internet would be. I’ll try to be more mindful in the future.”
Just false numbers? A few more users suspect, however, that the sales figures on eBay come from the scalpers themselves to artificially create FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and fake demand. However, this cannot be proven, but would be considered a typical strategy, as @alex_batista explains.
